Does this information come from a person who proclaim himself to know well the F&B and hospitality industry in Jakarta or is this again another joke?? As usual, there is once again MISLEADING information.

I don't remember posting anywhere anytime oh hear ye oh hear ye I thus proclaim myself to be knowing well thy industry of hospitalityism in this town of Jakarta

On the contrary I am just sharing facts. Since I live here and go out every night spending money in bars and restaurants and you don't even live here and even admit to not being familiar with Jakarta

Half of these places you've probably never heard of, let alone stepped into.
Copy pasting official government tax rules is fascinating but the fact is those buffets are full and good value for money also. Otherwise they simply wouldn't operate.

Over to you Scrooge

If you pay 30% in Dragonfly, the PB1 or PHR, tax is only 10%. The rest 20% is the service charge, not tax. This 20% charge go to the restaurant’s own cash register.

While in Five stars hotel restaurant the services charge is typically 11%, other restaurants might only apply service charge of 5%.

Still makes 30% though right. At least we agree you can count to 30

Small warungs, roadside food stalls often operate in the informal sector, meaning they may not be officially registered with the government and, therefore, are not within the tax framework. It would not be reasonable and practical for the decision-makers to impose taxes on these small warungs.
Hmmm, I was wondering about these taxes. A restaurant, like Solaria, doesn't calculate tax. Same with Bakmi GM and Es Teler. None of them are small warungs operating in almost all malls in Jakarta. Value for money. Therefore always crowded.

Here's an opportunity for a charity fund raiser. Buffet dinner and the entertainment being Pantaiema and SnPark square off in the ring for 5 rounds. Bare knuckle, Marquis of Queensbury rules or cage fighting?

Meanwhile, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.

I often look at the "menu" or exposed trays in local warungs.

Nothing that even remotely attracts me in most cases. The warung where we buy fish for the cats has always plenty customers, including bulés...
Even at 30.000 IDR it is not value for money for me as I consider it non edible, and it would go in the bin...

The mi goreng seafood at Solaria is "lumayan" and sop ayam is enak. The nasi goreng at Es Telar not bad juga. And the tjap tjoi (without nasi) at Bakmi GM is also oklah. Pepper Lunch also good choice. I often eat lunch there after olah raga.
A better choice than McDonalds, Burger King, KFC or other fastfood chains.

Never eat junk food or fast food.

Never tasted any Indo dish, the look and smell is enough for me !

Oh, I don't speak Indonesian so I have no clue what you're speaking about.

But we all have different tasts.
In fact during my professionnal life in Asia, I often had to eat (limited) local stuff when with colleagues or on business meals.
No more of it, I eat only French / European now.

The discussion about buffet prices at pricier places is kinda absurd. All the numbers mentioned here are still very reasonable for the offered food.
As people here already said, you don't only pay for the food. Other things go into the price too.

There are buffets and restaurants for every pocket and again, it's kinda absurd to argue about it. In most countries most people won't eat 5 stars hotel buffets for every occasion. Again, there is something for everyone. No need to bash this or that.

If we argue about income versus prices we better start with stuff that we need daily. Lots of stuff in the supermarket has gone up 50-100%, or even more in some cases, in recent years.
Nobody forces you to have an "expensive" buffet..

To be clear, I don't have a problem with that, Iam just curious. What about the look for example you don't like? I feel like especially the look is often super nice.

Anyway, Iam on the other side of the spectrum. I love most Indonesian food haha. There are also "premium" places if you are afraid of street vendors. And my wife cooks a lot of stuff at home, without msg and it tastes even better.

Again, no problem just interested about people's opinions.

People possess intelligence, and it is imperative that they employ it when crafting and disseminating information to demonstrate the effective functioning of their cognitive abilities.

There is a person in this forum who frequently flaunting himself to be surrounded by Indonesian middle class female professionals. The lifestyles of upper-middle-class and wealthy individuals in Indonesia differ significantly from those portrayed by certain professionals who frequently surround themselves with a flashy image. In Indonesia, a notable number of individuals fitting this description are unfortunately involved in fraudulent activities, particularly in investment/insurance scams, MLM, false promotion of products. This is noteworthy, especially when considering their place in upper-middle-class and wealthy Indonesian society. I presented statistics on the average income in Indonesia in post #29. Draw your sensible conclusion.

Generally speaking, Indonesian upper-middle-class and wealthy individuals make thoughtful decisions, and this strategic approach may be one of the contributing factors to their financial success. Those with discerning minds don't confine themselves to a single dining location during special occasions; instead, they seek diverse experiences, exploring different venues and taking advantage of promotional offers, often utilizing multiple credit cards for discounts ranging from 20-40%. These type of promotional activities are not uncommon in Indonesia. However, their prudent financial habits do not label them as "scrooges." They actively contribute to charitable causes, including the construction of places of worship, various charities, and assistance to disadvantaged families. Despite indulging in designer-quality items from globally renowned shopping centers, they may not necessarily direct their contributions to the owners of five-star hotels and restaurants.
Hmmm, I was wondering about these taxes. A restaurant, like Solaria, doesn't calculate tax. Same with Bakmi GM and Es Teler. None of them are small warungs operating in almost all malls in Jakarta. Value for money. Therefore always crowded.
Regarding this sort of eateries, the wealthy Indonesian people also eat in these places if they like it, get used to the taste since their childhood. But they also try Gourmet or Haute Cuisine Restaurants. When travelling abroad eat in Michelin Star restaurants treat other people when they are travelling around the world with their children, close friends, relatives. For these type of people they are likely to send their children to study abroad, not to study in Indonesia.

This person Michael Bambang Hartono is one of the richest person in Indonesia only second to his brother..

These people belong to super rich by the Indonesian standard.

People with sense will refer to the context.

Well, I would understand if this remark originated from an individual experiencing dementia, or if an ordinary person, a person with lack of memory. There is a connection between intelligence and memory, with memory serving as a foundation for many cognitive processes associated with intelligence. Does this statement ring the bell ?? :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Such a long winded paragraph only to end with a simple grammatical error.

Ring the bell? Which bell?

The correct phrase is "ring a bell"

It's not dinner time

Well, in this context, is it a fact, a lie, or a memory: a cognitive problem? Let people with sense draw their conclusions. :p :p :p
