After the meeting, on August 24, 2023, the US Department of Defense issued a joint press statement stating that the two ministers shared the view that China's expansive maritime claims in the South China Sea are inconsistent with international law, particularly the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

According to the statement, Austin and Subianto also jointly condemned the aggression by the Russian Federation against Ukraine and demanded its complete and unconditional withdrawal from Ukrainian territory.

Now the government is going step forward, and is evicting thousands of people to facilitate Chinese investments (similar as in Suharto's time). None Western company would ever accept this approach.

Many men were vanished and the wives had a really hard time, and the Suharto regime took a lot of property in Bali. It led to him being a dictator for what thirty years? When I first came to Ubud I stayed with an Ibu that owned a homestay and her husband was one of those that were killed! It was something no one talked about.
Now with evicting people in Rempang is a sad example of a few getting rich and lying and saying it will create jobs and they will build housing, giving the people only a month to move. Move to what? Are the houses already finished? How can they get back to the sea for fishing? This is corruption at it's finest! But I don't see the US in this one.

If the villagers receive proper compensation, I don't think they will resist. It's similar to what happened when the Batam Industrial Estate was developed. Look at how Batam Island has boosted the Indonesian economy and created numerous job opportunities for Indonesian citizens. There will be more evidence when the strategic plan to expands it to become a data centre industry in a few years' time is implemented. The air line distance between Batam and Singapore is only 27.30 mi (43.94 km).

You would never have seen documentaries like this during the Suharto regime. If someone was found to circulate this kind of documentation, they would disappear the following day. Family members will face lifelong suffering and encounter challenges in securing employment. The history books were manipulated, especially regarding 'the Order of Eleventh March (Indonesian: Supersemar, Surat Perintah Sebelas Maret)'. This event occurred on March 11, 1966.

There are reasonable number of documentaries of foreign government involvements in helping Suharto to rise in power.

One of the current Indonesian presidential candidates is the son in law of Suharto, loyalist and part of Suharto's Inner cycle, the richest Indonesian presidential candidates. He and his younger brother are the founder and owner of the Arsari Group, a diversified conglomerate that was founded during the Suharto reign with interests in palm oil plantations, pulp and paper, mining, logistics. While currently his brother is serving as a chairman these conglomerate businesses are owned by both of them. When a conglomerate Businessmen and politician making money from exploiting natural resources, not making high end high value added products for export, it tells a lot of things. But this doesn't imply that he isn't a viable option. However, given his previous background, he will have to exert more effort to convince voters that he is the best choice. He has encountered numerous failures in the past.

New highway, new railroad, airport extension, new industrial estate, nuclear powerplant, dam construction.... you name it (New capital......)

Normal process as long as the people :

• are properly informed in advance
• are properly compensated.

I remember seeing a docu recently where in the US an elevated highway was build, taking in account going through low class neighbourhoods as people expulsion will be easier, and compensation less.

Yes if adequate notification and adequate compensation are given. How many of those conditions will be met? I'd guess 'less than one'. I hope for the evictees' sake that I'm off by two but chances are slim.

Race was a factor but also the urban areas with the lowest real estate values, and thus cheapest land to obtain, were inhabited by minorities. The mass urban renewal projects in the 20th century also target minority area disproportionately.

True but it wasn't just to stick it to people of color. It was all about money and minorities just happen to own the cheapest land. They try to avoid valualbe real estate in any planning because it can balloon the budjet very quickly. Land in urban areas isn't exactly cheap. Yes, I acknowledged this with, "...within the CIA and other like agencies, ..." and also referenced Australian involvement. What was done was not to stop the spread of communism, but to gain a foothold in this country to be able to exploit it's minerals,timber, fish, palm oil industry,etc. the true concept of communism was to provide for all equally, but a few were more equal than others so deserved more. - The Jakarta Method, describes on a worldwide scale the "background" of the US / CIA involvement

- The Devil's Chessboard, describes he role of the OSS / CIA and US "deepstate" since 1942. Include the collaboration with Nazi's, all for the sacred anti communism war

- And if you want to dig a bit in the US plans for the world since the 70 / 80 I recommend The Grand Chesboard by Brezinsky. Plan for Ukraine were already set at that time......
