Aviation info.

That is my only real issue with T3: the distance from the arrival gate to where you need to go.

At times I think they should have someone at a table handing you water like they do when there are long distance races.

The TransNusa flight was good; no difference with other low cost airlines and it left on time. Not too full but that probably had to do with people traveling the opposite way on that particular day.

The 737 Max that has caused so many problems for aircraft manufacturer Boeing in recent years, is again causing difficulties. You remember that after two 737 Max planes crashed, the plane was grounded for quite some time four years ago.

Now the production had to be paused since there are some issues with the integrity of the hull. So another setback for the manufacturer, just as the company wanted to ramp up production of the model that represents an important source of income.

On the New York Stock Exchange, Boeing shares fell more than 6% after the manufacturer announced it expects deliveries to slow down in the near term. A part of the hull may not be of the desired quality, but aircrafts already delivered have not been affected and there are no immediate problems for safety, according to Boeing.

In fact the aircraft industry is doing quite well; there is a big demand. You can see that for instance with Fokker Technologies, the Dutch aerospace company owned by British aerospace supplier GKN.

Unlike the bankrupt predecessor Fokker Aircraft they do not build complete aircrafts. But they work together with other aircraft manufacturers, including Lockheed Martin, Airbus, Boeing and Bombardier. They specialize in making parts, electrical systems and landing gears as well as provide maintenance of helicopters and aircrafts.

Currently they have 500 open vacancies.

The 737 Max ……. Now the production had to be paused since there are some issues with the integrity of the hull.

Supplier Spirit AeroSystems, which makes the aluminum frame of the 737s, told Boeing that there is a problem with two fittings that attach the aircraft's vertical tail to the rear of the hull.

The defects were found in a considerable number of undelivered aircrafts stored at Boeing. According to the company, it is not possible yet to say exactly how many planes are involved, because the problem has only very recently come to light.

The earlier worldwide grounding of the 737 and the technical adjustments habe already cost the company more than $20 billion.

The delivery of the larger 787 Dreamliner has also come to a standstill several times during the past three years due to production errors. I have personally encountered already a couple of times that the plane of Qatar Airways was exchanged in Europe for a different model since there were technical issues. The check-in staff mentioned it was a mess. Of course they were not happy since the the substitute plane had a different cabin layout.

In The Nerherlands, because the baby boomers leaving their jobs and retire, there a lot of vacancies .. especially in engineering jobs.

not only that, I believe this also cause more last minutes flight reschedules. The last 2.5 years, we always use QA, great services specially on the biz class. However, end of March, they rescheduled our flight to Nepal with 17 hours transit time in Doha instead of 3 hours.
Two weeks ago, they also rescheduled our flight to Indonesia, delayed 4 hour on departure, and 6 hours on arrival. Return flight from Indonesia this week is also rescheduled for 2 hours, not too bad; hopefully no more reschedule at last minutes, let see.

The United States will end the mandatory vaccination for covid-19 for international travelers on May 11.

An A380 also landed in Brussels. But that was because of the thunderstorms above Paris 😅

Dubai International Airport, one of the busiest in the world, hopes to have moved to the southern desert in the emirate in 10 years' time. About 45 kilometers from where passengers now arrive, a state-of-the-art airport must be established.

Yesterday the emir distributed simulation images of what should become Al Maktoum International Airport. Al Maktoum already exists, it now has two runways, three more will have to be added. In total, there should be room for 260 million passengers per year.

The biggest problem with Dubai International Airport (which also has two lanes) is that it is located in the middle of residential areas and next to two highways. If the move continues, there will be more room for expansion.

The transfer airport is equipped with white 'desert tents' and many water features. It is expected that four hundred gates will be needed.

There will be a lot of demand for homes around it, says Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid. He expects that by then 'a million people' will want to live in the south of Dubai.

Who is the Emir?
No Emir in UAE or Dubai

Maktoum Internet Airport already exists and is open and up and running.

It's in Jebel Ali

This was an announcement of a new terminal being built and other extensions to existing runways etc
Dubai International is the one in the city in Garwood already 2nd largest in the world

I remember first landing there when Emirates just launched and no proper terminal and took a bit

90's first Airline to have tv in every seat in Y

Sounds like a great way To Meet The Fokkers!

Ok well I obviously meant International and it switched to Internet when I typed

But to write "Emir" instead of Sheikh is an actual factual mistake.

You wouldn't call a President a Prime Minister would you?

His title is Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

He is not an Emir. They have an Emir in Qatar.

And a Sultan in Oman
But in the country of United Arab Emirates, of which Abu Dhabi is the capital, there are no Emirs.

Only Sheikhs and a crown Prince which is a title only and also a President and a Prime Minister.

So my phone autocorrecting International to Internet is obviously a typo

But to called Sheikh Mohammed an Emir is factually wrong. Ironically he is however the Prime Minister (the President is Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al Nayhan from Abu Dhabi, also the Crown Prince of the UAE

CP of Dubai is Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. His nickname is Fazza or in Arabic F3 hence his logo. He is like the pinup photo boy of Dubai. MRM's son

After the death of Sheikh Zayed in 04 I think, the CP title was supposed to come back to Dubai. But since Dubai was bankrupt and needed a bailout, they agreed to forfeit this right in exchange for financial donation and also Burj Dubai was renamed Burj Khalifa.
So there you go. Some free family gossip.

Also Etihad gets its jet fuel for free. Emirates has to pay for it from Abu Dhabi.

Sama2 :)

🤦🏼‍♂️

Ah, let’s do the same:

WTF is Maktoum Internet Airport?

Sorry but this is not so funny anymore Stephen.

Well there is Dubai Internet City. Where they pushed all the IT companies to relocate thus ensuring that free zone was "full" but all the office blocks on Sheikh Zayed Road were empty

Also Dubai Media City
Dubai Commodities City
Etc etc
