He must be. He was Education Minister and we know how well that has progressed. Wasn't he minister when the more nationalistic changes were put in place eliminating other subjects?

Anies Baswedan is certainly not an average Indonesian individual. The following are some notable indications:

• He pursued his education at a highly respected university in Indonesia.
• He was selected as an exchange student through AFS Intercultural Programs.
• He is a recipient of the Fulbright scholarship.
• He obtained a PhD degree from the United States.

Achieving a Fulbright scholarship requires being among the top Indonesian students. It's important to note that this scholarship is not granted by the Indonesian government but by the American government, hence being selected and decided by the US government.

I have also observed him deliver a lengthy speech without a script. To date, the only Indonesian president who could do this is Sukarno.

There is an old saying in politics that there are no permanent friends or enemies; everything revolves around interests. He and those supporting him may believe that garnering support from radical or moderate religious organizations is crucial for his political career success. This strategy was evident when he secured the governor position, surpassing Ahok.

I like Ganjar but admit I know less about him that the others. His running mate, Mafud is probably the best out of all six running.

Anies is supported by radicals and everyone knows they will insist on repayment for that. His campaign promises are at the level of outright lies. Impossible to deliver on.

Prabowo was reported to be highly involved with the Timore and Communist murders. Never has been brought to justice just like others. Being Suhartos son in law tells enough for me.

Jokowi's son is a timid individual but if you talk to anyone under 30 he is their choice completely forgetting that their choice is actually for Prabowo.

Prabowo claims he is a changed man and wants to continue what Jokowi is doing. Sounds nice to get you elected but hey, a complete 180 in less than 5 years? Give me a break.

Iskander is there to get Anies the Muslim vote. Without him Anies would for certain come in a distant third. I think he will still be third but maybe not too distant.

Every presidential candidate will be chosen not for themselves but for who is their running mate. Always makes one wonder why these parties don't nominate the best but with the cash the chosen candidates need to put up, they probably just paid the most. Money normally borrowed and will need to be paid back in some form.

Anis is not part of the establishment, and he mentiones fight against corruption that nobody mentions btw, and other topics challenging the (paper) tiger narrative that Indonesia is so successfull and its "achievements". Also he has some interesting experts in the team (Thomas Lembong for example), making coalition between the intelectuals dissapointed by Jokowi, and the religous part of the population. Probably majority of young voters will vote for him.
