Mobil Rakyat...new cars

Totally agree mate that's what happens when computers design cars for efficiency and not style

They still need to build some 'traditional' features in the cars though, otherwise the general public would not accept it.

With Tesla for instance, but also other electric vehicles, it has taken some time to get rid of the radiator grill. It's unnecessary of course but they were afraid it would not be well received. That's what I like about Toyota; they do design over-the-top for their e-vehicles. Just to make the point it is futuristic. (It has nothing to do with Cx anymore.)

Another sore point for the car lovers in Europe for instance, is that money talks. And where are the most sales nowadays? In Asia. (Still followed by the US.) The taste is simply different. And then there is a 'conflict of interest', especially if they need to create more and more 'world cars'. (No more continent specific.)

A nice example is the new Honda CR-V. Many Asians and Americans like it. But in Europe it did not get a positive reception at all. They like Honda and know the quality will be high. But the design...

This is a spy shot of the Renault Kwid, driving around in Jakarta.

20161013_050513_Prediksi-Harga-Renault-Kwid-Rival-Serius-Suzuki-Celerio-dan-Kia-Morning.jpg

The small SUV was specifically developed for the Indian market, competing with the Suzuki Celerio. It is rather cheap over there but obviously lacks all 'standard' safety measures in its basic trim. It doesn't even have power steering. It is rather popular, with 70.000 units sold in a period of 60 days.

So the rumors are it will be sold in RI as well. Prices floating around are between 150-170 juta. Vs. 70-100 million IDR in India, the safety provisions and taxes will make it much more expensive here.

Of course the question is what SUV /Crossover Datsun will offer in the GO range. The Go-Cross is announced for 2017.

.
So the Renault/Nissan group is quite a busy bee. First, Nissan takes a huge participation in Mitsubishi Motors and Carlos Ghosn becomes CEO of that company as well. (3x CEO? Wow.)

Now they announced that besides automatic version of the KWID that I mentioned before, Renault will also launch a a bigger SUV. Not only in Indonesia but also other Asian countries and Australia.

The 'all new KOLEOS' it is called. The old Koleoa was related to the previous Nissan X-Trail/Rogue and it did not sell well outside of South America. In many markets it quietly disappeared after some years. Renault then caught up with the Captur and the Kadjar, both are big hits in Europe. So the Kwid will be the smallest version and the Koleos the largest of their SUV range.

It is a bit of a weird development btw, it was all very clear in the past: Europe, Africa and South America were for Renault. And Nissan had North and Central America and Asia. Now this has completely changed, in many markets they compete with each other. And added additional brands as Datsun (Nissan) and Dacia (Renault) besides Infinity as luxury division of Nissan.

Of course they learned from the Toyota-Daihatsu-Subaru-Lexus model.

Toyota has a minority interest in Subaru's parent company, Fuji. Unlike Daihatsu, Lexus and Hino, Toyota does not own Subaru.

Nissan also does not fully 'own' Mitsubishi Motors. (Approx. 34%; the other members of the Mitsubishi conglomerate still have a piece.) But they do have a majority stake of course.

Now Nissan and Mitsubishi did not compete that much in their car business. There are the smaller cars as the Mirage and March of course. The X-Trail (Rogue) is more of a CR-V alternative and the Pajero Sport is more comparable to the Fortuner. And the ASX or Outlander Sport probably did get some Juke competition, as well as the Patrol vs the Pajero in the Middle East. The pickups Navara and Triton (L200) do operate in the same market segment. But in most cases probably Toyota is the big bad wolf.

I have an old Tundra V6 with 135K -- that's miles -- and it still runs like a champ & looks pretty good too.

Some things simply never break. And they are already for 13 consecutive years the automotive leader according to Interbrands etc.

Another somewhat surprising collaboration (technical partnership) in today's car market is between Toyota and Suzuki. This was -for obvious reasons- for Toyota mainly for the Indian market, but it will be interesting to see how 4WD and EV will cross pollinate between them.

And another one; Mercedes uses Renault engines for their smaller models.

So, we have made the decision to go for a new HRV. We'll be buying it on a loan through either Bank Jasa Jakarta or BCA (visited the dealer yesterday for calculations and it worked out at 33jt total interest over a 3 year term, which seems very reasonable to me).

Now, I've actually never bought a new car before so what are the things i need to look out for and how much are the prices negotiable ? So far they've given me:

1. Free rear parking camera
2. Free 3 year/50km maintenance (from the standard 20km)
3. An upgraded spoiler/sharkfin/bumper/rim package

My questions:

1. How much can they do with the actual selling price?
2. They offered a special plate with 3 numbers and letters at 3.8jt, is that the going price? Example: B 710 xxx

The B 888-FBI is already taken (remember the nephew).

That 3.8 is not a bad price, I recall 3.5 juta for a 3/3 combo. The less numbers, the more expensive.

With free maintenance until 50.000 km, would be twice a routine maintenance following the 'standard' 20K for this car. If you don't make many km., it would be three times (since it's yearly). Now of course it's mainly oil replacement; are parts included or only manhours?

The pricing completely depends on the model (how recent and popular); a brand new one will be very difficult to get any substantial discount but the HR-V already exists more than a year. Without the CX-3 they don't have a lot of competition though. For them extra options or accessories are always more interesting than pure discount of course and I do like the rear view camera etc. I think they gave you the Active Package? Perhaps you can get some Mugen rims when pushing it and some more smaller accessories as floormats and so in the end phase. Make sure everything is included in your price (OTR).

Something else I was considering; perhaps they would do something extra on the Honda day which is today (on 29 October) at the BSD Expo?

Good luck.

Thanks for that, the sales guy just left my office with the booking fee.

Went for a Special JBL Audio edition which was actually sold out months ago but they had one left from someone not keeping his payment obligations. He knocked 15jt off the TDP, which comes down to 5% of the price of the car. Not huge by any means but I think a pretty reasonable deal in combination with the additional extra's as well as 3 year free maintenance & spare parts.

I asked him about the BSD expo as he is there for the evening shift, they have a lucky dip and since they started the biggest price was 5jt discount, but mostly a free umbrella/wallet set which he said they'd include anyway. He did say nobody drew the 50jt discount yet but I can't be bothered to go to BSD for the 1 in a million chance of getting it.

A new version of the Yaris is foreseen any moment now. There will also be a variant with higher ground clearance, to compete with the Suzuki SX-4.

Some news from the Avanza front:

Toyota announced a starkly version. The car will have less options and capabilities, but still with a 1.3 liter engine. This car, a bit like the Limo of the Vios, was meant to be for taxi companies, but now it seems they decided it should be also for sale for the general public. You could ask yourself what safety will remain in a car which was already not known for its safety features. And they did already introduce a model directly underneath the Avanza.

So the guys just gave me something to think about; I'm here on a KITAS sponsored by company, what happens if I'm not on a KITAS for whatever reason when it is time to pay my yearly taxes?

You don't show any ID or anything when paying the yearly taxes (my experience paying 3? times), just present the STNK, pay the fee, get the new STNK. You could easily send someone else to do it for you if you like. I have also found the mobile SamSat much quicker than the building, so ask around and try to find a mobile one.

Now renewing the plate at the 5 year mark, I haven't done, but could be more complicated.

So I was sitting in the back of a Toyota Calya from Uber, the new model they positioned just below the Avanza, and was pleasantly surprised.

The dashboard styling and interior quality was of a very high standard. The space in the back on the 2nd row is sufficient for adults of 1,8 meter. Although the armrest in the doors is a bit small. The stepless blower, which at first seemed a bit 'cheap' and amateuristic, is in fact somewhat better than the ones you find in bigger models as the Avanza, Xenia, Ertiga and Mobilio.

Being more than 50 million rupiah cheaper than an Avanza, it is definitely worth to consider if you're in the market for a 'people mover' with three rows.

Thanks for that, but I seem to remember that once upon a time when I was living in Bali I did have to show the ID of the person who's name was showing on the STNK. Especially with recent crackdowns on corruption in government offices, does anyone know the actual rules instead of the "common practices"?

Then again, if they manage to get rid of Ahok I'll probably don't have to worry for the next few years. :D

Officially you are to bring a photocopy of the KTP of the person on the STNK and the BPKB ownership book: http://prosedurlegal.blogspot.com/2015/09/cara-dan-syarat-bayar-pajak-stnk-samsat.html
