He just didn't go with them, he led them. I am just not understanding how a non police entity can take on the polices duties and get away with it. just because the MUI issues an edict that does NOT have to be followed gives them no power either. They are using the excuse that employers are forcing employees to wear Christmas apparel as a guise to pressure the Muslim workers into not wearing any of it.

IF employees are being coerced into wearing a Santa hat against their will and under threat of retaliation, I actually agree with FPI. The problem is that it's being mediated by a mob group largely because the justice system there is ineffective.

Mostly it's just a shakedown, I think.

Except. everywhere they seemed to have visited the employees state no one is forcing them nor have the businesses insisted they wear them. It has all been voluntary. The shakedown seems to be a move to intimidate and flex their muscles.
 
FPI do sod all unless there is a cash reward, I think it's also wrong to force Christians to wear those stupid hats, most who wear them look totally silly
 
They are wearing Santa hats or Santa helper hats. They seem to be okay doing there jobs, probably having some fun. But this somehow is a threat to MUI. So what does it mean if they aren't being forced? Maybe it is not as deep and dark as they imagine.
It kind of reminds me of some people finding Halloween so dark and it was mainly kids wanting to dress up, Spiderman, a bunny etc. and to get some candy. Of course they did not send out the religious goons to make sure they were not coerced by the forces of darkness. I realise being an employee is a power disadvantage but come on, really. There must be greater forces of evil happening in Indonesia at this time than Santa hats?
If they were putting this effort into fighting corruption and thereby helping society, and the poor, they may get some applause from me.
 
I just dream of seeing control freaks like this walk into the local where I was brought up

Yes, they should definitely send out the Christian defenders to guard against this great evil....ha ha ha. The evil of perhaps having fun or looking silly.:smile:
 
If they are worried about materialism and commercialism then maybe they could start with some education, or warnings on these. Perhaps they could also tie it into corruption, distorted values and beliefs. There are probably deeper rooted things then wearing Santa hats.

I doubt materialism and commercialism have any bearings on the FPI's motivations. They think they are Indonesia's defenders of Islam as their name implies. The Christmas apparel means nothing be it Christian or not. All that matters is that it is not Islamic. The FPI thinks Indonesia should be an Islamic nation governed by Islamic laws and for themselves to sit in a controlling seat in such a government. They go out and flex their muscles to show people they are the enforcers of Islam. There are that believe that the FPI were supporters of the so called treason to put the first draft of the constitution into law thus making Indonesia an Islamic State under Islamic laws.

That's actually untrue, prior to that article was the one about the Honda dealership where the dealer's representatives admitted it had happened and that it would not happen "again."

There's also the possibility that staff members are, understandably, fearful of retaliation if they say they were coerced into wearing the hats. There aren't many worker protections in Indonesia. I get that it's most likely a shakedown, that's not the point. The point is that IF employees are being coerced FPI may actually have a point.

Actually the Honda place was one that the employees said they were not forced at all and the hats were completely voluntary just like they found in other places. The FPI claimed those wearing hibab were being forced to wear but there was no one wearing a hibab who had a Santa hat on. Nope, totally an intimidation move on the part of the FPI and their lackey police helpers.

I think we need a Santa parade through the streets where the FPI offices are located and around the grand mosque.

I'm wondering why the MUI issue these Fatwas or whatever. Nobody basically bothers, is this another job justification, when I ran a company most of the young lads smoked, so I suggested banning smoking, thinking everybody would listen to the MUI as they had said Smoking was haram, basically they told the MUI to piss off and not be so stupid, I was quite taken aback as I had considered the MUI the arbiter of all things Islamic, obviously people only listen if it suits their purpose, like the numpties of the FPI, they have a note from their doctor excusing them from thinking

Yeah only if people follow the fatwa "Ma'ruf added that the possibility of conducting sweepings could be minimized if the edict was to be applied immediately. Therefore, such a dissemination that could end up with sweepings would not be necessary.

"We're calling on securities and companies to respond [the edict] appropriately. It must be implemented immediately. For instance in Bekasi, I saw that they were responding [to the edict]," Ma'ruf said."
 
You have to wonder on what planet the MUI are on, I've been here 17 Christmas, and every year I see the girls in the stores wearing Santa Claus hats, so the MUI have just noticed, they really should get their heads out of their arses and perhaps declare corruption is haram, rather than silly hats
