How to proceess KITAS/VITAS Online

I got married at the start of the year in Indonesia.
I'm in England at the moment and want to start the process for getting Vitas to arrive in Indonesia in early November but I've got quite a few questions.

My wife's KTP at the moment says Belum Kawin but she should be able to get a new one that says Kawin on it. Hopefully that should be simple enough.

She will need a Kartu Keluarga as well to be able to register as my sponsor for my Vitas.
But she tells me that the kepala lingkungan says that he can't issue a Kartu Karluarga with my name on it unless I pindah negara because as a WNA I can't be the head of the family.
As I'm a male WNA I've told her that it isn't possible to change to WNI because of ikut suami and also because I have always worked 6 months of each year in UK.
Can she be the head of the family with my name on the Kartu Keluarga ?
If not, how can she organise a KK ?

When she registers, do all the documents need to be uploaded the same day or can she register and then upload the documents when they're ready until she is ready to apply for the Vitas possibly one or two days after registering ?

Do I need to visit the Embassy (in London) or can I send my passport as I have done every other time I have applied for a Tourist or Sosial Budaya Visa ?

At the moment my wife is staying with her mother so I hope the fact that we don't yet own our own place won't cause a problem when applying for a surat domisili.

Your wife needs to change her KK and KTP to married (Kawin). Your name will not be on the KK until much later (when you get KITAP). So in the interim, your wife will only have her name (and any kids) on KK. She will also be labeled as family head (kepala keluarga).

it just seems such a weird concept to me having a family with only one person in it.
It sounds like the person in the office doesn't realise that they're supposed to issue the Kartu Keluarga the way you've described.

Hi Taymoor. Officially she does need to change her marital status before applying. But it really depends since I've seen many cases where a KITAS was provided and the spouse never changed the KTP. They didn't care and accepted the marriage certificates etc. as enough proof.

The Buku Nikah is enough.

Depending on the religion, with Indonesian marriages there is a buku nikah (Muslim marriage with KUA registration) or a sertifikat nikah (marriage other religions, civil registration).

⬇ Added info on post #130: Since you have done a KUA marriage, you have the marriage book. This is enough and you don't need to get a certificate or so.

It's been a while - many years to be exactly.

That time I've done KITAS and now procedure has completely changed.

I never was able to re-new that KITAS because COVID lock down and when I got here again I had to do cancellation of the old KITAS even it was expired - so this was (probably is) must do procedure in 2022.

I have dual citizenship and this time in 2025 I used another my citizenship and was able to obtain E31A visa online first followed by getting ITAS automatically to my email once I crossed border and passed auto gate in airport.

What I never get is MERP.

I have questions if you know as of now in 2025:
1. do I require to get MERP in any form (stamp, online, etc) ?
2. Do I need SKTT ? If so, where to get it ?
3. How to add me in KK ?

Also my kid has got two citizenships as per Indonesian laws - Indonesian and mine one - any recommendations on it, anything should I take care about it ?

Thinking about it, it should be possible for you to be included in the KK of your child. You would request that at the Catatan Sipil also.

SKTT I'll be trying to get online and update you how it went through.

Although Catatan Sipil’s do have websites and they even have offer menu options to change and report data for WNA, none that I know will accept online applications for ID for foreigners.

So the KTP and SKTT’s need to be applied for in person. It will only cost you half a day, don’t forget you need an application letter from the sponsor as well as a form to fill in.

Depend on each city's Kantor Catatan Sipil (this is why I suggested to check its website first - to know which documents you need to provide , and/or to get a queue number , and/or to choose a more convenient place to request , ..) .

The last 2 yearly SKTT , I requested without sponsor's letter .

Hi all,
This is how we did to get spouse sponsored ITAS for my husband in 2026:

He is an WNA and I am an WNI. We both lived outside Indonesia at that time and both worked full time.

On week 8 I made my account as his sponsor through the immigration website.

1. Click on "e visa Electronic Visa", or https://evisa.imigrasi.go.id/
2. Click on "Apply"
3. Select country: country of origin
4. Main purpose: general, family, or social
5. Sub purpose: family dependant
6. Type of Visa: E31A spouse of Indonesian citizen
7. Planning to stay: 1 or 2 years (we chose 2 years)
8. Click "Detail & Login"
9. It will show you all details about E31A visa, the cost etc.
10. Click "Apply"
11. Since it was the first time that I logged in, I click on "Ya" and I got a page to make my account as his guarantor/sponsor.

I then filled in my data and uploaded photo. I did it in the weekend and the next Wednesday, my account is approved.

Part 1 Apply:
On week 10, I logged in my account and started uploading the document and filled his data: passport, photo, etc. On the last page we got summary of what we've filled before. Quite handy for double check if everything is correct.
Then there's a page where I can click on "Submit".

Part 2 Payment:
I was a bit worried because in the beginning of this part, there's a warning that payment should be done in certain time limit but it didnt say how long. 24 hours, one hour, 5 seconds?
We got Billing code and apparently we had around 7 days and few hours to make a transfer.
We paid with mobile banking by category "Penerimaan Negara Bukan Pajak"and his name appeared automatically. After 5 minutes we got the receipt.
When I logged in, I can see the status of the application and my husband received an email notification.

Part 3 Download E-Visa
On week 11 his ITAS is approved.

We got lucky since we've done it in libur awal puasa, bulan puasa and got it on time before Idul Fitri.

We entered Indonesia on week 14. We have the E31A visa at hand.
I could go through autogate but he had some problem. I saw some other passanger had difficulty too, Indonesian and not Indonesian. Maybe a glitch? Anyway, he was unpatient to try again and he decided to go through the counter. Besides autogate, no other problem.
Don't forget to fill in All Indonesia card before you entered the airport. One card for every passanger.
When he got through the counter (or for lucky others autogate) you got an email of your ITAS, IMK, and ITK.

We are waiting for his SKTT now. I'll write an update when it's done.

Edit: I forgot 2 things. With E31A Visa one has 90 days period to enter Indonesia. And first day of ITAS is counted on the day one enters Indonesia.

With autogate it's not so clear you are supposed to look up into the lens not just down focusing on getting your passport straight
