Does anybody think Habib Rizieq will be charged and if so convicted for anything? In a separate and older issue 3 Ahmadiya's beaten to death in 2011 and there attackers were given 3 to 6 months. The lone Ahmadiya trying to defend was given a 6 month sentence sentence as well. Something like 1500 hardliners showed up that day, as reported in the media. There were only 20 members of the sect gathered.

Probably not, but if he is it will be a minimum sentence which won't inconvience him too much, what had crossed my mind was if the rest of Indonesia got Sharia law you are looking at the future religious police a bunch of dimwited numpties

A lot of the time there does not appear to be much justice. It was kind of nice today seeing some pics and video of the Dayak people refusing to let the FPI guy get off the plane in Kalimantan. We need a whole bunch more of the Dayaks.

When I worked in Balikpapan, a chap was cleaning his motor bike with petrol directly in front of the office entrance, I asked one of staff to get him to move, the chap said, No you tell him, he's a Dayak, so I've always understood most Indonesians don't mess with Dayaks, anyway I asked him nicely and he moved to the other side of the car park

To a Dayak...... 'Headhunting' has a totally different meaning to those looking for suitable employees....

Why am I not surprise Fadli Zon is right in the middle of protecting the FPI. With all he has done to support them, he has to be a member of the FPI. Of course, I don't understand how Fadli Zon can even have a job as anything with his support of the riots, inviting the rioters to the DPR, letting the door open for the treasoners to take over the FPI, be so supportive of any FPI action, and just be anti Pancaslia as it is written now.

and just be anti Pancaslia as it is written now.

Pancasila's insistence on religious beliefs as a manifestation of Indonesia's struggle and identity is the problem, not the solution. It is precisely because of Pancasila that FPI et al. are such a nuisance.

Not to defend Rizieq, but I would support any supposed criticism of Pancasila. I do it on a regular basis, and I encourage Indonesians to give up on Pancasila or at least reform its first precept to be secularism.

We should be just as concerned at Rizieq being accused of "blaspheming" the state ideology as we are of Ahok being accused of blaspheming Islam. Both are crimes of conscience, to be unable to speak out against either makes them beyond discussion and potential reform.

People have been saying that he shouldn't have been charged with blasphemy just as Ahok shouldn't have been. They want him for his hate speeches against Indonesian icons, the president, the currency, and a lot of other Indonesian non religious things. I have been wondering if they would start going back and forth accusing everyone of blasphemy for this or that reason on a wholesale bases that everyone will grow tired of it and just get rid of the law. The problem is that the non Muslims will rack up losses and the Muslims will be sent on their way. The only thing that can ever change anything is the people and they are a bunch of sheep with their mouths stuffed with nasi to stifle them.

On the contrary, it will be taken as evidence that they need more blasphemy laws to protect religious sentiments and more laws to outlaw "treason."

Change can happen, but it's going to require a move outside their comfort zone.

I was a little surprised that no one commented on this

perhaps, like me, you're still laughing :D

That's pretty amusing. Sounds like he was reaching for Caliph but decided to go for the next best thing, an invented title with the same kind of authority. That's if he actually requested this "promotion," I have to imagine there's the possibility that it's BS. He's nutty enough for it to be true, though. If it is true he pretty much just made himself irrelevant.

it's probably because Trump already reserved that position after he finishes making America great again...:tinfoil3:

Ha ha ha what are you saying Davita. That it could happen.

That this could be his version of making Indonesia great again.

Ya, IF it's true. I don't seereports of it on any other news source

His proclamation of being the High Priest just may well be what everyone has been waiting for. His comical demise. I could imagine that even a lot of his FPI comrades would be saying, WTF? Seems the rest of Indonesia is laughing pretty hard about it.

A very good point. His delusion and contempt may be more instrumental to the downfall of the FPI than all the farcical injustice the courts can provide.

I doubt you will see the downfall of it. The Jakarta semi high priest will in all likelihood take over. But I think the downfall of the current leader could weaken them for a bit as not as many take them as seriously. It would also be an in for other groups to try and take over that spot of being as big as the FPI. It's all never going away I'm afraid but getting rid of a few people can bring some relief to the minds of the normal people.

Or, the FPI could splinter and then things could get really interesting and probably not in a good way.
