What's a good middle of the road cell phone ?

I liked my Blackberry, it did was it was supposed to do, make phone calls

Good one Anglian....I asked my wife to give a friend a call and she said "Hang on...I got to think how to do that!" I know she knows how to make a phone call.... it was just her reaction I found hilarious as she readjusted her iphone from selfie mode.

When we returned to the USA a few years back the only service provider that would not force me to buy a new phone was AT&T. I was able to continue with my ancient BB Curve (inherited from my wife) until last year when AT&T announced they were going to cease support for 2 G phones, including my Curve used then pretty much exclusively for voice & text. The announcement including suggestions for purchasing a replacement, I ignored. Shortly before scheduled 2 G stop date, I got an unsolicited package from AT&T. Inside was a gratis 4G BB Passport. It works just fine for voice, text, email and reasonably fast internet access. Did I mention it was FREE. (It is easy, as well, to switch out the sim card for continued low cost use when we are in Indonesia.)

My first handphone in the UK was an Alcatel, it was the size of a house brick, putting in your inside jacket pocket it would almost pull your jacket off with the weight, I thought to myself, quite wrongly, these bloody great things aren’t going to take off

I was in a Hong Kong when those things were introduced. We were having lunch in a restaurant when a noisy Cantonese was yelling into this gadget with the tall antenna pointing to the ceiling...he wasn't having much success so I pointed him to the house-phones just outside the door.
Some other customers started clapping me until the whole restaurant was applauding...I took a bow and meekly went back to my dim sum....:embarassed:

We still have an old BB Waarmie, but it is falling to bits now & the battery dies rapidly, despite having a new one in it a couple of years ago ;) Hubby just uses it to store all his music in now.
I did love the BB though- mainly because it didn't have a stupid touch screen.

Actually my BlackBerry Curve transported from Jakarta crapped out a year or so after we returned Stateside. No problem; I replaced it with an identical model purchased on Ebay for $15. I have a slew of old batteries I can bright you this summer.

That's kind of you, thanks. I have no idea what model it is... might be a curve ... hahahahaha I just googled- ours might be a Gemini curve... would yours be the Armstrong one?

Maybe. There are several of them in the bin. I will pop the batteries out & stuff them in one of the checked bags pockets.

I must admit I still miss my old dumb Nokia cell phone. It wasn' quite a brick but all you could do was use it for a phone. If you texted you had to keep pressing buttons till you got to the right letter lol. 30 min later you could text " I'm on my way home ".
But I left it on the roof of my car one day and pulled out on to the road . At 30 miles a hour I saw it in my rear view go flying off the roof and tumble end over end down the road. Turning around I went back and low and behold besides the the corners being beat to hell and having to find the back and battery it still worked . Try that with a new phone !
Unfortunly it took a dump right after I did. Yes it went into the big toilet in the sky. God rest it' soul

My wife also has a Samsung J7 Pro, and for 3,5-3,8 juta it is a good phone.

But if I compare it with the S8 of my son (he also has a Samsung Smart TV), it definitely falls short on the picture quality. Which is important to her.

Now I regret a bit not waiting for the S9 -not to get one for her since she would kill me- but then to buy a S7+ (its prices are dropping considerably) or a brand spanking new A8 Plus. Their cameras are much better, especially in darker environments.

Btw, she’s had quite some issues with SD cards in the Samsung phones so far; already three times they got corrupted.

Ah what the heck I'm not ashamed to admit it...still uses a Blackberry (Priv)...expensive, but I can't live without the physical keyboard. It does work quite well actually. My previous one is now my US phone...good enough to send/receive text, and make/receive phone calls.

Yes, but WhatsApp doesn’t support Blackberry OS anymore?! That’s the only reason why I got rid of the Z3.

Priv is android based...but now the latest one is Blackberry KeyOne

Xiaomi Mi A1 Pure Android. No Bloat.
Rp 2,999,000 on Lazada. 64gb and 4gb ram

I have the keyone because I hate touch screen and had BB for years and years and only because of w/a I had to change my old BB in Dec

The new Keyone is amazing, once you get used to Android system, the keypad is good etc but for me personally I am still getting used to the fact it is bigger (screen etc) and a little heavier too, still miss my old BB9900 but at least this one has keypad, sadly still need to use the touch screen which is PITA especially with Jakarta bumpy roads, I am always telling the wife to eff off and my boss that I love him, or sending the wrong pic to the wrong girl hahahaa

I changed to Priv back in Dec 2016 (Whatsapp deadline) that was the only reason why I upgraded from my Classic...I figure at the price of 8,5 million (at the time of purchase), I have to use the phone at least another year before even considering another upgrade....luckily I'm not a gadget freak..
