What the Hell is Going On?

If this is true it would be real karma:

A journalist made and published a picture of the lawyer while he was at the police station to report the boy. His car on the picture was then identified as the vehicle that was involved in a deadly accident over a month ago. They never found the culprit (which is already very peculiar).

That actually started on Instagram when someone noticed the plate parked at the Government building and posted it on Instagram with the message, Instagram Do Your Thing. They did.

Today they started working on some of the roads. Not the worst but it is something. There is one road in Pringsalu that has been repaired by a single resident for something like the past 5 years. He constantly fixes it and everyone knows will never complete it but he goes on with his little box if anyone would like to donate as they pass by. There are roads that have never been paved. Needless to say, when it rains they are an obstacle course.

Also because of the rather extreme climate, but on top of that with the bad quality of (applying) the aspal, the streets‘ longevity here isn’t very good. The standard in western countries is 20 years. If it’s 3 years like over here there is something really wrong.

Sometimes the asphalt has already cooled down considerably when it arrives. Especially the composition with too little or inferior bitumen is a problem. Very often they don’t scrape off enough of the existing layer.

And not only the budget but also the use of the road determines its life span. That’s why city roads are in much worse shape than provincial which are worse than national roads etc.

Every couple of years the streets here get a new layer, and after a day they‘re already damaged. Because the drivers got their SIM with a package of krupuk and don’t know the car should move when turning the steering wheel and thus the wheels. Also, they allow cars on the new road too fast (after 10 minutes). Last time I went outside with a plank and flattened the damaged spots every time a moron turned in front of our house. Those 20 meters are the only ‘rather normal’ surface in the whole street.

The thing about Lampung and it's roads is that it is the path most taken with commerce. Sumatra supplies a large quantity of edibles and raw materials that majorly has to pass through Lampung. Those commodities that come out of Java heading to Sumatra also have to pass through Lampung. Lampung is the route where coming from any direction in Sumatra, all routes come together in Lampung. Like a funnel. Commerce here of course is overloaded trucks. Many of these trucks like to take what they consider short cuts and you find them running around city streets. Maybe since these big trucks are making deliveries to retailers is one of the reasons we have lower prices compared to most of Indonesia. Although I doubt that. Everything seems to be cheaper.

Now add regular traffic going to and from Sumatra. We have a toll road now, maybe 2 years old and it already has problems. It probably isn't used like it should be since the toll from Bandar Lampung to Palembang is close to Rp500,000 each way for cars. It is estimated that this years mudik will have 3.5 million vehicles passing through Bandar Lampung in either direction to mudik and then again after mudik.

The budget Lampung received is high in comparison to other areas and mostly because of these problems. It is not for toll roads or national highways like Sukarno-Hatta highway. They come out of the national budget and are constantly under repair since trucks do not want to pay the tolls. No one can find where these road budgets are being utilized in the regencies. You would never know when driving around. Even city streets have not been repaired in 2 years including high volume larger streets. Large potholes are common place. Well, except near the Governors offices and the City of Bandar Lampung main government building.

Heading West, well, West, then South, then West, then North, then Northwest they have built a nice road from Kota Agung to the West Coast through the mountains. Yes, it us nice and long over due. The old road had holes big and deep enough to fit small cars into. Trucks and buses were heading over the side. Traffic was slow behind any larger vehicle. Now, the road is nice. One would think that new road took care of the problems. Well, it's smooth for now but for some unknown reason the engineers failed to see that the sides of the roads on the higher side and some of the areas on the down slope side are now subject to landslides. Something is constantly sliding down on the road. From a rock to a road covering event, something is happening. Are they addressing these problems? Sure, they have parked dozers so they have access if they are needed. As for actually doing something to fix the problem, no.

While Lampung certainly isn't the only area in Indonesia with infrastructure problems, it is an area where commerce funnels through and both Java and Sumatra businesses are the main cause of road deterioration.

Traffic here in Lombok is peaceful except for the fact that i was hit by a motorbike while I was riding my bicycle 3 days ago. The one who hit me just ran a way. I filed a complaint about him.

I hope that you weren't injured!!

If you are working and possess an IMTA, your company can apply for you.

If you are not working, get into your wife's Kartu Keluarga (if separate), then ask your wife to apply BPJS for herself which will automatically cover you as the husband.

Lampung: First a Lampung student attending UNI in Australia criticized the Govenor in regards to condition of infrastructure.

Governor lashes out at the criticizing him with having his personal lawyer submit a police report in regards to the criticism posted in social media. Police immediately contact the OPs parents and give them a taking to and some threats forcing them to apologize to the Governor. Governor then addresses personally the parents and calls them names and threatens them with things that could happen. Law minister comes back with there is no problem and people are allowed to criticize these problems. Police say no charges.

Governor is being ridiculed for his threats to the family so to take the spotlight off him before other things are found out he gives a speech about how public officials need to stop flaunting their wealth and pointing a finger directly at the Lampung Health head by name.

Lampung head of Health department is then looked at with her expensive bags and clothing. KPK gets involved at looking at her. Citizens start posting more about her and the infrastructure in Lampung.

Government starts fixing roads right and left. Fixing them fast.

Citizens start pointing out expensive belt buckles worn by some elected government officials to the tune of 20 to 30 juta each. One such individual is the Governor of Lampung. The Deputy governor gets involved and starts making statements which leads to her flaunting of wealth including her rolex and clothing.

Citizens start asking about the Bandar Lampung, Rajabasa Prison warden who drives a Harley and loves to show off. As things started about him and his 4 juta salary being able to afford a Harley the investigators pulled him in and questioned him. He apologized for showing off and that was that. No, people started pointing out that he had a home with a pool, had big parties for prison employees, and was building a private hospital. Now the investigation has oved higher up and they are looking more closely at him.

The citizens have then started asking the KPK to come to Lampung and start looking into the government building contracts by cost vs M2. Evidently the government has been using the same contractor over and over and it has come to light that while building the government projects the same contractor is building houses for government officials.

Today it was reported on social media that the new road repairs are failing after 2 days. Residents are showing that holes have started already and the new surface can be removed by hand. They mention that no trucks yet have driven on these roads yet. 2 days. The Deputy Governor stated they spent 50B on these repaired roads.

All this because the Governor couldn't handle some criticism.

I have noticed that while all this has been happening, Mayor Ava of Bandar Lampung has been completely silent whereas she was always out and about in the public eye before all this.

Thank you dear Dave

People may rail against media, often for good reasons, but the Lampung matter is a good example of having a free media or press. The student who went on line complaining about roads and infrastructure in Lampung evidently had police visit his parents in an attempt to intimidate him and shut him up. With media picking up on the story we see in today's midday news that Jokowi is visiting Lampung and suddenly the roads are being worked on. With the absence of some kind of media freedom so easy for corrupt officials to stamp on dissent and shut people up. The young man Bima deserves some kind of award for his bravery. Perhaps have a road named after him.

It’s always like that, especially here. But I would say even if the media is not as bad as the police, they are still running behind the facts. When something goes viral via social media, then it explodes and gets attention. You need some affluent people with many followers to pick it up.

Perhaps this one…

… Jalan Lubang Bima.

President Jokowi is visiting Lampung today.

There are rumors that the trip was brought forward a couple of days and that on the spot the president requested to take another route as foreseen….
