US Presidential Election - What's your take?

With the wall-to-wall reality freak show coverage, I can't see how the turn out could be anything other than record breaking.

The Dems are a bit worried about people staying home figuring she is going to win any way. They have people out now telling people no matter what, they need to get out and vote. Even have Mr. Internet Inventor, Al Gore making the rounds for her promoting getting out and voting, and global warming.

You really think voter turn-out will be low? My guess (based on nothing but gut feeling; maybe I'm wrong) is that it will be pretty high. However, I could imagine an unusually high number of votes going to Johnson or Stein, and/or people voting for their Congresscritters but leaving the presidential slot blank.

However things go, there is going to be a lot to talk about on November 9.

Just a gut feeling also for me. From what I recall, normal voter turnout in a Presidential election is normally less than 60% of registered voters. And I feel this election will be voters who are voting much more against a candidate than for one. Not much enthusiasm at all for any third party candidate and congressional elections get far less than the 60%. So my gut says that normal voter apathy combined with casting a negative ballot will just keep people home.

Democrats are better organized at the local level here in Iowa. Although the latest polls have Trump a few percentage points ahead, the recent negative publicity about his attitudes and actions toward women are not sitting well with a conservative Republican base that fancies itself morally, religiously superior. Disgust is likely to erode his marginal lead. Organization, and especially the effort to take advantage of Iowa's advance voting provisions, may propel Clinton to a narrow win come November. (The Democrats are ahead in the race to get their faithful to vote before November.)

In the past decade Republicans benefit more from a typical election (low voter turnout), because older people are more reliable voters, and they lean conservative. Gov't sponsored Russians hacked top Democrats' emails and released it with enthusiastic help from Assange's Wikileaks in October, in order to make young Bernie supporters feel even less enthusiastic about Hillary and stay home.

But, this time around Clinton seems to take the edge even with seniors. Low voter turnout won't save Repubs this year.

Better than waiting for 2020 I'd suggest the GOP harness their energy, and funding, on getting as many Senators and Representatives elected now. When Hillary gets into the oval office, and the House and Senate are majority Republican, there may be an opportunity for them to re-invent themselves and choose a better candidate. At least they can veto any Supreme Court appointment.

Trump, whether he wins or not, is now a disaster candidate for the Republican Party.

Wow, can you imagine how many votes this Bush could get?!

A half hispanic Bush is gonna be interesting indeed. His uncle George W. gained the most latino votes of any Repub president in recent memory.

It's neat to see him win, just so people can say there are three George Bushes as American presidents. If that happens, the next president could be Donald J. Trump jr.

It seems that for those potential super popular nationwide candidates the biggest obstacle is the own party.

You are joking, right? I hesitate to christen any of the offspring or hangers-on as "super popular." Almost anyone can look viable when compared to the current candidates. Once this election is over, their 15 minutes of fame will be over, as well.

I just realized I never received an empty ballot (I honestly don't remember how I received one before)...but from the pamphlet I got last week, the deadline is Oct 18th? Can I just go to the embassy and fill out the ballot there?

I watched Michelle Obama's speech, that was outstanding. She was eloquent and passionate. Even Glenn Beck said it was the most effective political speech since Reagan.

How effective? On youtube it gets at least twice as many thumbs up than thumbs down, which is spectacular considering it's a political campaign speech, the hyper-partisanship climate, and the hateful leaning of youtube commenters.

But why she doesn't have a bigger lead over Donald Trump?
After all these help from FLOTUS and the growing list of GOP leaders abandoning his candidacy,
Trump’s self destructive campaign really is at or near DEFCON 5.
Hillary, they are making this as easy as they can for you
you should’ve trounced Trump in landslide already.

Perhaps you missed all the baggage Secretary Clinton is carrying, and of course, her gender disqualifies her in the minds of many.

"It ain't over 'till the fat lady sings."...and even then, according to Giuliani, there should be an investigation of the election committees as....he said on TV...too many dead democrats vote.

That's not fair towards Waarmie and somewhat under the belt, David.
