Unmanned store opens in Jakarta

That’s an interesting concept, be a lot of unemployed young girls, but when you walk round some stores here lots of girls just chatting and not really interested in their job and have no idea what they are selling

Is this the telkomsel one in their office building? My friend designed and organised that one, if it is the same one in their office? You need to scan to get in and they only sell a few things which you scan and then leave, it is a promo for t cash or something

Ok no it isnt. it was JD, sorry

Ok my friend just did one for Telkomsel in their building

‘UCS’ the first Unattended Convenience Store concept in Indonesia had launched at Kimart, Cafe de Telkomsel, TSO building 11th Fl, on 28 May 2018 by Telkomsel’s CEO and Dir. HCM as our present for Telkomsel’s 23rd Anniversary

.

All the hard work for almost 9 months to finish this first prototype finally paid off..

Learnt lots from this first stage result, another development and enhancement will be complete soon..

UCS Stage 2, here we come!!!

This trend is crazy. For the company a staffless shop means less expenditure and more profit. For the unemployed it means fewer work opportunities. Worldwide in developed and underdeveloped countries we see increasing populations, every increasing numbers of well educated young people emerging from learning centres and increasingly high numbers of youth unemployment. We are already seeing the frustration that this engenders spilling into the streets in volatile demonstrations. Civil and violent demonstrations are becoming a worldwide phenomonen.

There is enough financial capacity in most countries to continue encouraging robotization and work displacement with high profits for companies and corporations focussed solely on shareholder and proprietorship wealth without regard to the social cost and the increasing resort to drugs, alcohol and crime as a response to a future without hope for the many millions who will never find work.

If I go to a supermarket using scanning systems I avoid them and just go to a manned checkout. These mindless profit making shops need to be boycotted. Where possible, I enter banks and seek staff assistance rather than use ATMs.

(Thank you. That is my rant for today.)

If everyone followed your routine of only using manned check-outs etc., as you describe, what is your remedy for all those highly-skilled ATM mechanics/Robot machinists/IT technicians that will be out of work.

I'd rather train the young men and women for semi skilled or skilled trade rather than see them wander around the store aimlessly. And useless to boot when you ask them questions .

...... lots of girls just chatting and not really interested in their job and have no idea what they are .....

The construction office I worked in in Sumatra had quite a few. They all seemed to working on an individual Excel spread sheet page. We surmised they were there to get married to the young engineers and thus keep them working in the place when finished.

What they do in shopping malls is ...well.. a mystery.

Most technology that is labor saving is a waste in Indonesia. The cost of the employee is a pittance of what the system and shrinkage could ever be. This reminds me of Telekomsel's driver-less bus. These are more publicity stunts to get investors excited about technology than to actually make a profit.
