UK General Election

Police shoot one terror suspect and arrest several in London. The police spokesman said that terrorist activity has increased but so has police activity and they are making daily arrests. Will this have any effect on the upcoming election? There is more terrorist activity in Europe then Indonesia, at this point anyways.

Indonesia feels quite safe to me. At least the areas I have been in. The people are generally quite friendly here.

It's probable if you said NO to the above the application would be rejected. The Scots and Irish are more closely connected than the English are to either. In fact, it was the Irish that invented the bagpipes and gifted them to Scotland...and the haggis-bashers haven't got the joke yet...

I am not sure if it was WW1 or WW2 he was talking about how once they heard the sound of bag pipes coming there was a definite fear in the enemy. They were known as fierce fighters. I am not sure if there was also some reference to wearing kilts as well.

Thats sounds about right. I remember I was out driving somewhere a couple of years ago and some were practicing the bagpipes in the park. I liked the sound and it reminded me of the story from WW1. The Ladies from Hell. A person wouldn't have been looking forward to those ladies showing up once you heard the bagpipes in the distance.

When I was in the RAF I was the only Englishman among 19 Scots, a real laugh, I told them I never had Haggis, a friend who had just come back on leave woke me up at 2am with a haggis, we chopped it's head off and cooked it in the washing machine, it was delicious, a haggis has six legs, Davita will confirm this, three legs are longer one side of the body, this enables a haggis to run round the side of hills, unfortunately for the haggis it can only run one way, so is easily caught.

I cannot answer about the fierceness of the Scottish soldiers in WW1 as I wasn't there but was going to suggest asking Anglian...I see he has given you an answer so that's confirmed.
I find it's always best to get accurate information from someone who witnessed the events...

It's interesting that Daniel went to university to learn from professors and Anglian went to boarding school and all they seem to know is Scotsmen were skirts and play bagpipes to ward off the enemy and a haggis has six legs and can be cooked in a washing machine...next I'll be told that you can make toast with a hot iron!
It's times like this that I'm blessed to have had my edification by reading the Beano and the Dandy.
BTW the plural of haggis is haggii...but it's rare to see more than one at anytime as they get a bit dizzy running one-way around the mountains and they fall down and cannot get up...much like I'm feeling this morning......but I'll be better after I've had my pub-lunch. I believe pub-lunch and Sunday roast are English inventions....so I congratulate them for those very practical products like a pint and a pie...

hahaha...you didn't know. He gets a wartime pension from WW1....it's still being paid in pounds, florins, shillings, pennies and farthings....:lol:
He took what was known as the 'Queens Shilling' from Queen Victoria to join the 'Royal Flying Corps'...he said he was in the RAF but it was actually the RFC then....I think his memory is shot....

You see Daniel that's why going to a university was such a waste......practical experience will teach you that a man gets more handsome, to the ladies, the fatter his wallet is. As in geometry, algebra and the study of physics and economics....President Trump exemplifies the 'theory on the evolution of the ugly man'.

Also...you don't need to be young to be handsome. I know that Anglian and myself are not so young but I am sure we are considered handsome....by somebody. In my own case there used to be many that would confirm this fact...sadly, most are no longer in this world to verify my statement, but when I get to meet them again I'm sure I'll be greeted by a "Hello handsome!"...

The last time I visited UK was 1990 so I'm an unlikely person to comment on UK politics today but I have kept an interest and do have opinions.

Calling for an election some 3 years early is clearly a political ploy, by the Conservatives, to increase their slim majority in Parliament despite the Prime Ministers assertion that she did it to strengthen her hand in Brexit negotiations. My opinion is that, excluding an emergency being declared by the Queen, election dates should be written in stone and not allowed to be parlayed for political gain.

Again, my opinion is leaving EU is a gross error and, if Le Pen wins in France, will probably be the death of the European Union. I think some have forgotten the two world-wars that Anglian, Daniel and I are joking over were created by national pride and economic singularism. I grew up with Germany as our enemy and since then have made many German friends...it's the effing French we don't like...

EU was an attempt to unite Europe, to prevent another war episode, and was fashioned somewhat along the lines of the United States which has, in the last couple of hundred years, managed to stay united even given a civil war and other serious divisions within those States . Can anyone imagine the USA having a referendum to break each State back to independence and having no Federal Government....I cannot envisage that.

There is no doubt that the Brussels Gov't needed reform and should have been more appealing to member countries as fierce independence is still prevalent...but EU is younger than Anglian and myself and we still get along...even tho' he's a Sassenach! The EU is still a democracy/forum in infancy, and debate and discussions could, and should, have allowed adjustments to satisfy each countries individual problems instead of lumping everything as a standard for all. This was particularly hurting UK as immigrants seemed to prefer to live there than other member states.

The whole Brexit fracas reminds me of kids playing football, The one who owns the ball doesn't want to play anymore because he's losing...so he takes his ball away.
