Yes, that was my observation too. Also in that area of the museum Bank Indonesia .. nothing. The outside areas of old Batavia and Fatahillah could be very nice, amazing that there are practically no better restaurants there with outside terraces

Cafe Batavia's an interesting place for sure. The guy who started it certainly had a full life. They used to play jazz music only which was much more fitting for that place than the lounge music.
Did you check out the pictures in the toilets? Very homo erotic, funny they get away with it. Just like the urinoir with peeing next to each other against a mirror…
The outside areas of old Batavia and Fatahillah could be very nice, amazing that there are practically no better restaurants there with outside terraces I wanted to say, but better would be; practically no restaurants.
That area has such a huge potential for foreign tourists. Who often stay in Jakarta as a one night stop for Bali or Yogya. And they just let it rot…
Yes, I believe he's from Kalimantan.Interesting.![]()

Big houses turned into coffee shops? Can you provide some pictures? It’s kind of amazing how many coffee shops are being opened. I imagine it’s one of these things you would start with as first steps in the F&B world. Easy to copy concept, machine can be leased.
Also, nobody wants to live in those big houses on busy roads anymore so often these get turned into coffee shops / eateries. With a parking chaos in front as result.
They also don’t really care about competition; if you look at a larger boulevard close by our house, there are coffee shops popping up like mushrooms; in one block there are three (3!) right next to each other.
And the big trend there is to have an outside area -which allows smoking- and live music. The latter is not so nice for the people in the kompleks behind those big streets.
it's not something unpredictable. Millions Indonesians need and entitle to get fun; and as everybody aware, most of them earn not much and dont have luxury of 40 paid working days annual leaves. And for some or many people, spent few bucks by having selfies in the crowd of popular places could be part of the fun too; probably same or even more fun than other people spent thousands dollars and risking their life for some thing stupid (This was what my uncle told me when he knew we hiked Everest base camp and playing with sharks in red sea).If you want a stressful day .. go to the Kraton Yogya .. on a Saturday![]()
Is it because of the traffic congestion ?. I do not know the areas well, but I understand you travel to the beach, during the weekend where there are family excursion going to the same place at the same time. Possibly it is only one main road as well ?2 hour drive (from the city of Yogya) to one of the beaches ...
Not to be repeated ..
A two hour drive to this particular beach is not worth it. Yes, it was crowded. But I don't recommend it, because there is -besides taken a photo of the rocky beach- nothing than warungs, toko-toko and warteks. Also annoying 'professional' photographers who want to take your pictures. One can rent 'Bali' clothes and lots of local tourists sewa these cloths to take a picture to pretend they are in BaliIs it because of the traffic congestion ?. If this was the case this could be avoided by travelling outside the busy hours such as very eralyin the morning, during the week after the rush hour ??
Do any hotels or other restaurants have such a policy?A lot of families with kids in our hotel Marriot in Yogya.
Made managers aware that the atmosphere in the restaurant at breakfast hours looks like a 'kinder garden'. And ask them why there is no policy to separate the families with kids from the rest. Like there is already a policy to seperate the smokers from the non-smokers.
