We went to visit a restaurant in Mega Kuningan, an Italian place called Alba. (Probably @snpark has been there also since he lives on a 1 minute strolling distance.) It is in a new development called One Satrio. The steakhouse in the area looks rather promising. There will also be a Sushi Hiro.

This is obviously not the first based on the model of having an open (green) space with restaurants surrounding it. It’s a bit like an outside food court but more upscale and with the vibe of a western city center. For those in Bali; compare it a bit to Bali Collection in Nusa Dua or for an even better comparison; the Samasta Lifestyle Village in Jimbaran.
Another rather new one is Chillax at Sudirman. We went to Butcher’s, the food is not bad but it gets extremely busy at lunchtime so you’d better make a reservation or come before noon. In the evenings it is not so crowded.
Obviously there are also the two ‘Chinatowns’ from Sedayu which are modeled after an interpretation of the Forbidden City. One is in PIK (Pantjoran), the other -and somewhat nicer one- is Old Shanghai in East Kelapa Gading. It’s worth to visit, esp. in the evening. They serve a lot of babi but no alcohol.
On walking distance from the Old Shanghai there is also a rather new seafood restaurant cluster (Kampoeng Seafood) with covered outside seating.
Then on walking distance from the PIK’s Pantjoran there’s The Cove, a sea boardwalk with some restaurants. If your intestines are lined with lead you can try a seafood platter there. Still, I prefer the area over Ancol anytime. The boardwalk is longer than you might expect so don’t choose the first Restorateur you see. Behind the restaurants there’s also a Kemchicks in the shophouses.
Now the biggest and most impressive is obviously PIK 2. This huge development, with European cities with canals as inspiration is a bit hors catégorie. Even if it is not ready yet, it is not bad to walk around. There are some nice restaurants of which many (soft) open as we speak. Don’t forget there are multiple locations.
