Today's menu:

simple breakfast, wholemeal bread and rye bread, fresh from cheapo made in china bread maker. not very beautiful looking but still very nice. easy peasy to make it, just put all ingredients and press the buttons, ready in approx. 4 hours. very simple basic ingredients, water, bread flour 50%, wholemeal or rye flour 50%, salt, brown sugar, and dry yeast. for the wholemeal bread, we use truffle olive oil and add sunflower seed, while for the rye we put butter, caraway seed and flaxseed.

Have been thinking for a while to make my own baguette but 3 things kept me back.
The several time consuming proofing stages
The price of a Kitchenaid Artisan (9 m)
The capacity of my oven to reach 200 / 220 C

Any info to share concerning your cheap China breadmaker ?

You don’t want to use a stand mixer for heavy dough. Overheating and malfunctions waiting to happen. The bread makers have a built in kneading function which is much more powerful.

Bread makers:
  • Panasonic sd-b2510wxe - €75
  • Magnani Artisan - €50
Unused in box. There are also some other Panasonic models (as ZF2010) that have been used as demo model.

This one from La home, i bought for less than rp.900k incl. Shipment to karangasem, with one year warranty. You'll find slot of similar products at this price level in online store. Probably manufactured by same manufacturer in China.

We do have kitchen aid mixer, dutch oven, and lovely electrolux oven, but too cumbersome just for 500 grams breads for two of us. We hate the washing parts. Not all dishwasher friendly. We have no pembantu.

Had a sirloin steack yesterday dinner. Meat pretty tough, last time I buy this.

The Miss prepared herself a tuna steack, served with brocoli, cauliflower, pasta, rice and some sauce. 100% her own creation !

This looks like a nice nutritious, well balanced meal! Another approach would be some Wasabi, and Soy Sauce, as a condiment, for the Tuna? 👍

A big premiere today. Paella.
3 hours in the kitchen, a lot of ingredients and a 7/10 rating.
Not too bad considering I never tried that and the "average" quality of the local products like mussels and prawns.
Did it with Basmati rice, not optimum, should be the round Bomba type.
Found some similar stuff at G.L. but at 170k / kg, no thank you.....

Anyway, the Miss liked it very much and I gained some "good points" !

I am truly impressed by this work of Art with Food! I have never tried this dish, and would love to someday. What a great idea to mix Sausage, Prawns, Mussels, tomato sauce, Rice, and so many wonderful vegetables together, into one dish! 👍🌹

Breakfast this morning, a thick slice of homemade Rye bread, with generous edam cheese, quickly fried in air fryer and a cup of coffee while enjoying our garden and koi pond. Unfortunately very cloudy. If not, the majestic mount Agung in the background.

A nice addition to this would be some fat slices of real vine ripened Beefsteak Tomato slices! And then sprinkled with Japanese style seaweed flakes!

Thanks for the compliment. Feel free to stop here if you visit the area. We do have few nice terraces, in the garden, facing lempuyang hill and rice field, overview the mount agung and on the good weather, lombok strait and mt. Rinjani visible from the rooftop.
Unfortunately, no French wine, but the warung nearby sell the best arak in bali (at least what they claim).

Not too crazy about pain noir / roti hitam. We eat it mainly in combination with bacon and a very thick green pea soup. In certain provinces it’s popular with cheese.

Older picture since I haven’t made that soup in ages, the ingredients as leak, pork and celeriac are just too expensive. And it’s really a winter soup.

Rp. 25k lunch, nasi bungkus with lombok style grilled chicken, and veggies, mainly steamed kangkung (morning glory) with very hot spicy sambal, freshly made by the 40 years experience lomboknese lady. super delicious.
My lips were red, numb, and sweat was pouring down my face because of the spiciness, but kept eating, unable to stop, until the last grain of rice.

Woaw, I must admit I am jalous here ! And nice presentation as well ...

Where did you get the camembert ? Or is it in a restaurant ?
Thanksm My Aussie neighbor just got back from there and brought some for me. He knows I really like cheese. Last month I told him that I was hesitant to go to Denpasar because of the terrible traffic. He promised to bring some back for a medical check-up after returning from Australia. He kept his promise even though he couldn't find my favorite cheese, Mimolet. Camembert and Gorgonzola are available at Grand Lucky, but not Mimolet.

Had a look at the prices a few days ago....🙈🙈😱😱
And Port Salut .... 170k for a portion similar to this one.

I love cheese, but that's a bit TOO much

Same for goat cheese..... I mean the real one, not the local stuff.
