Surrendering KITAP

Greeting all,
I used to hold KITAP, but due to COVID-19, my KITAP expired, and I never used that to enter Indonesia.
Over the last few years, I've been going back and forth to Indonesia using a Visa on Arrival (VoA) and I never asked about my KITAP.

Now, I'm thinking about getting a new KITAS/KITAP from my wife's sponsor (she is WNI with KTP) and I was hearing different information about the requirement to surrender my KITAP when it expired, and in my case, it was long ago and I've been traveling in/out since then.

Has anyone here experienced such a case where your KITAS/KITAP expired and need to reapply? I know I cannot renew it but need to start over again.

I saw a post on FB regarding such a case. An expert said that entering Indonesia with a Visa on Arrival will automatically cancel your expired Kitap. But if you want to make sure go for "cancelling kitap", I guess.

Thanks!
Since my KITAP expired, I think it will also automatically be canceled anyway.

I am more concerned about returning the physical card/surrendering it in case not surrendering it will cause issues in the future when I try to re-apply.

Yes, of course. The post in FB was about an almost expired Kitap. I have no idea about not giving back the physical card will cause issues in the future.

I believe once your Kitap has expired you have to start the process all over again beginning with Sosbud then to Kitas and then to Kitap. A long tedious haul with lots of documents and trips backwards and forwards to immigration. Good luck.

When my ITAS expired last time I need to apply for EPO to get back to Indonesia because they rejected my new application telling me i need to cancel my expired ITAS. I think process for KITAP would be same.
