https://forum.expatindo.org/showthr...(also-applicable-for-Spousal-SosBud-to-KITAS) is a great resource this site provides!

I'm trying to plan Indo trip logistics around immigration office visits needed while converting SosBud to KITAS.

My wife's KTP is Manado but we'll be staying in Bali for several months. We plan to visit family in Manado and register our foreign marriage at Kantor Catatan Sipil. Our marriage was in the US but stamped by the Indonesian consulate.

After that is complete I'd like to begin converting my SosBud to KITAS. Will everything need to be done in Manado, or can I use government offices in Bali or Jakarta? We will go to Manado but want to plan ahead how many visits and how long we'll need to stay for.

Any advice will be appreciate as always. Thanks.

You will need to apply at the office where your wife's KTP is. The KITAS or KITAP is always based on this. If you wanted to move to eg. Bali your wife would need to change her KTP to Bali which is not always the easiest process as reported by some members. They also schedule a home visit as part of this process, to make sure you are living at the address listed on the application.

Getting a KTP anywhere in Indonesia right now is a challenge due to the eKTP corruption case. My wife has been waiting for her eKTP since September. Getting a Bali KTP also requires proof of residency (property or long lease), otherwise they will just issue you a KIPEM (seasonal ID card).

You may be able to use KIPEM as the basis for application at the immigration office in Bali, although I'm not certain on this.

It maybe easier just to do the SosBud to KITAS in Manado first (should take only a couple of weeks), then move to Bali and sort it out there.

That is if you have a whip/cambuk sapi in hand, Dafluff and besiege the KanIm and KanWil. Normal and realistic time frame would be 3 weeks to a month here. KanIm works pretty fast while KanWil can easily take a few days to a week just to issue a letter and online communication between KanIm and DitJenIm is similar to my house internet connection: slow and unreliable.

Very good. Within 30 days (now) of entering RI (for residence), as I recall.

Theoretically if you're still abroad and then in Jakarta etc. first you could go the VITAS route but you would have to see whether that makes sense. I bring that up since if your SosBuds run out after all these months in Bali etc. you would have to make a quick exit.

Thanks everyone for the practical advice.

SosBud was a better option for me because VITAS requires a trip within a fixed time after submitting the application online. I'm not eligible for VITAS until my marriage is legally recognized in Indonesia.

After researching and considering everyone's feedback, our plan is to go to Manado and register our marriage at Kantor Catatan Sipil within 30 days (to avoid fines). Then we'll return to Bali where we have a relatively long term rental and get a KIPS. Whether a KIPS is valid for KITAS sponsorship seems to be hotly debated, but I've read several success stories so I'll press my luck. Processing KITAS in Bali is less risky for us because immigration officers can visit the address we'll spend most of our time.

I was eager to begin processing KITAP immediately after KITAS, but learned Indonesia doesn't begin the two-year marriage requirement countdown until the marriage is registered at Kantor Catatan Sipil.

Navigating the immigration systems of two countries to maintain legal long term status for my wife and myself has been a fun adventure. We've stubbornly refused to use agents or lawyers in either country which has worked out quite well for us so far, largely in part to communities such as this one.

I don't want to be a leech that just comes and asks for help, but unfortunately don't have much to contribute at the moment. I read most of threads in the other forum categories and really like the community's personalities and collective demeanor. If anyone ever needs advise related to NYC or IT (server admin, code, infosec, etc) I'm your guy! If anyone happens to be in Manado when I'm there I'll be happy to share a few bottles of cap tikus.

I have a question , I have Sosbud visa stamped on my passport and only have two blank pages left in my passport, can I renew my passport here to get more pages before going to Indonesia Bcuz I will be converting my sosbud to vitas and kitas , what my question is, will I be able to travel with my new passport and visa on my old passport and can I can change it to vitas later in Indonesia if I get a new passport now , somebody told me that two pages are enough but i would like to have a fresh passport before going there,,,,thanks

I don't know where your 'here' is but I've travelled to Indonesia on a new Canadian passport with a Kitas in an old one...no problem. Just make sure, when they cancel the pages in the old passport, they don't cancel the page with the Sosbud stamp.

From here i mean in Malaysia , I'm a Pakistani but living in Malaysia , once you have kitas already thn if you make a new passport is fine what I meant was when you Have a Sosbud on your old passport and you make a new one and that's different , so I wanna make sure that. Thanks

Its the same principle...you travel to Indonesia and enter on your new passport and show the Sosbud from the old passport, Later have the Sosbud transferred to the new passport or, in your case, have the new Vitas/Kitas put into the new passport.
