Well 20mins after the EQ they did withdraw the Tsunami warning and it predicted 50cm only? The epicentre was close so wouldn't have been a big wave but yeh I get your point

I guess the problem with the tourists stranded on the islands is that the whole support system bringing fresh water and food has come to a halt.

Then there's the problem of reduced hygiene and potential for diseases. With emergency services overwhelmed, it's not exactly a good place to be.

However, my daughter's friends (Brits) will also join us on this trip. Their parent just asked us how safe Bali, the possibility of another EQ of same magnitude, and whether they have to cancel trip.
I fully understand their concern.

There is no way to predict an earthquake - besides that the injuries come from debris and building collapse etc - No one has ever died in an earthquake (technically)

That's an impossible question to answer. Obviously no one can predict earthquakes, and 3 rather big ones so close to one another is very disconcerting. But they were centered in Lombok. As far as Bali goes, it has only been very minimally affected as of now.

On a lighter note, my neighbor has a shitty fence made out of cinderblock, without any reinforcing columns. It has been leaning precariously for a while, and has a large horizontal crack running along the entire bottom. It's been that way since before the earthquakes.

Surprisingly I did not feel this one, as I was running down stairs as it happened. Only when I got to the bottom a house guest said "Gempa!", and I noticed that the water in my fish tank was sloshing around.

Another one a few minutes ago, we felt it here in East Java, around 40 km south of Banyuwangi.

Friend confirmed it was rather strong in Sanur ?

Just now another 7.0 hit Lombok. Same spot as the earlier in the day one. Definitely felt that one in Bali.
