Having applied for a 60 day tourist visa at the Indonesian Consulate in Perth today, I thought I’d relay the process and a bit of information for anyone who may have an interest or requirement. It’s a pretty straight forward affair.

The consulate is at the very south eastern end of the city centre on Adelaide Tce which offers the advantage of it being relatively quiet traffic-wise, and as a consequence, parking within the immediate vicinity of the consulate has always been possible for me on the numerous occasions I’ve had to go there. Perth city parking rates are Aud$5 per hour.

7. Visa is valid if presented within 90 days from the date of issuance.

Note that NO CASH will be accepted as a form of payment!! A 4 day visa turnaround applies If you lodge Monday morning your visa will be ready Friday afternoon.

There is a small chemist/pharmacy named Rosens a couple of hundred metres around the corner from the consulate that offers 4 passport photos on the spot for $20 which I’ve become accustomed to using before going to the consulate. They don’t mind if you borrow their scissors and glue stick to cut and paste your passport photo onto your visa application.

I wouldn’t normally submit my visa application on a Monday morning in Perth as in the past I’ve found there to be too many people utilizing consulate services at this time and not enough consular staff made available resulting in a bit of a wait. I did so today as I was meeting a friend in the city. There was one Indonesian consulate staff member made available only to handle ALL visa applications, submissions, general enquiries and document drops which was a little frustrating as we could see numerous other employees in the background who could have opened a teller window and assisted with the initial rush of visitors. I was the fifth person in line/to take a number out of close to twenty others and had a wait of almost an hour before being seen. It’s my experience Thursday mornings are the least busiest time.

After handing over my visa application I was asked to repeat/confirm my Australian telephone number and address which is something I hadn’t experienced at this consulate before. (Maybe my hand writing is just getting harder to read).

Overall, the easy to find location of the consulate, excellent spoken English of staff, the handy pharmacy around the corner for your passport photos and ease of parking makes the Indonesian Consulate in Perth a pretty pain-free experience. Perhaps avoid Mondays.

Good report Van...out of interest have you ever attempted to have that type of visa extended as a Sosbud type?

No Davita. I've never tried to convert it into a 211B (?). I'm of the understanding that it isn't possible through normal channels. Having said that, I have had 30 day visa on arrivals renewed with my passport showing I've left the country and come back in without me leaving the comfort of my beer. Those days are gone perhaps.

You are correct.....isn't supposed to be extendable but I've heard of many here in Bali that have managed to get a sponsor, after arrival on that visa, and had it extended the same as a Sosbud visa....but that was hearsay.
