Regarding BCA Credit Cards and HALOBCA Customer Service

This is one reason I try to keep a foreign issued credit card here. No problems disputing transactions.

Why do Indonesians put up with such nonsense?

Precisely. I've had to dispute transactions before and there was never the least bit of resistance from the credit card issuer. As well, there was no insinuation that is was somehow my fault. Reading the OP's story makes me cringe. After reading this, I insisted my partner ring her bank and put transaction limits, PIN requests, email notifications and the lot on both of her cards. Nobody should have to deal with such nonsense and why people here stand for it is baffling.

I was in HSBC bank inquiring about a CC, there was a women creating quite a scene as the bank had blocked her card due to the fact she had run up 40 million Rp and didn't seem in a hurry to repay it, she was very, very indignant as she didn't get anymore credit

I hope the credit card works out for you. I am new here, but it looks like things will fall into place. It just takes a little time and a few procedures to follow. I know you have a pension, as stated prior, it is just the age requirement. Ya some people make a mess of their finances, don't track and overspend. Lots of people get into trouble this way all over the world.

Speaking of keeping a card from banks with foreign origins, I remember that Citi was slapped on the wrist by the Indonesian banking authority a few years back. Seems the bank employed a group of leg-breakers to convince customers to pay their bills. Their contractor went a bit too far in encouraging payment and one customer ended up dead.

Incidentally, that sort of business practice may be how banks ensure payment in a country where the rule of law is notoriously weak.

When Our house was completed 16 years we were offered a a used telephone number from someone who had not paid their bill, what a hassle we had, it appears the women who held the number previously owed millions of rupiah to various banks, the banks had employed some heavies to reclaim the money, we worked it out it must have been around half a million RP, despite our protests, we had a hard job to convince these hard men we didn't owe any money, I eventually got one who could speak good English, he took some convincing but the calls eventually stopped, one which took a bit longer was from a friend of the lady, she was owed 35 mil. So I can see to some extent the problems banks have with many Indonesians who have no idea regarding their duty after borrowing large sums of money, when I was manager for a company, BCA arrived and offered all the staff credit cards, I then had a queue of staff, asking me to show their salary as ten mil not the measly 3.5 mil that they actually earned, they really took me some time to convince them that that wasn't a good idea

when your card billing statement is issued the stolen amount will be shown as your charged amount to be paid, if you refuse to pay as the figure is in dispute they will basically sell the debt to a collections company and then the thugs will begin their reign of terror. Been there seen it and done it when my wife's credit card was stolen a few years back.
