While other Southeast Asian countries are making it easier and cheaper for tourists by offering visa-free entry, Indonesia is going in the opposite direction by doubling its visa fees. If tourism and the hospitality industry suffer as a result, and common people in the hospitality, F&B Industry lose their jobs because fewer International tourists are coming, the people who made these decisions may already have been promoted by then.

According to market theory, arbitrarily raising prices without considering competitors is only viable in a monopoly, where no other players or substitute products exist. This does not apply to Indonesia's visa policy, as strong substitutes exist countries like Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines, etc all offer visa-free entry to many international tourists.

Increasing state revenue is dead easy, almost every adult could do that if all they need to do is keep raising fees, customs duties, and taxes. But where will all this additional revenue actually go? Based on past experience, it is not particularly difficult to guess.
