No More Inefficient or Intolerant Indonesia - Jokowi's New Vision

The road pic is photoshopped

Don't think so.

There's a video on Detik.com where an expert explains why it looks the way it does, and it makes kind of sense.

There are many places and elevated objects that have to be crossed. Think of (Light Rapid) Train tracks, bridges, buildings, electrical outlets, etc. etc. Now if you go much higher with pillars for the complete stretch, the road would be much more expensive than only covering these exceptions and thus having the hilly effect.

And to show it is not exaggerated, these are pictures from another angle with different traffic but with exactly the same characteristics:

Edit: Another funny thing is that people are already complaining their car's transmission will suffer unnecessarily because of this.

I also saw some media with the same pic but flat road. So why isn't the road next to it also bumpy?

I still hope the Dutch or the Japanese is coming back and take over this country. 2019 and people still live and act like animals.

Moderation note: This is an incredibly offensive take, especially for a first post. This user has been put on temporary suspension while the moderation team deliberates further.

In fact there are three major infrastructure projects going east from Jakarta, ongoing at the same time.

That is also what you see on the pictures next to that Cikampek toll road: There is a track of the integrated rail LRT (Light Rapid Transit, between a tram and a train). And something that they call the KCIC (Fast Train Indonesia/China), a high speed train between Jakarta and Bandung.

As you can see, the very optimistic initial planning and objectives, were not met:

There has been a huge clean-up at state-owned insurance company Jiwasraya. Before Christmas, the entire board was fired by Thohir, and 10 of them received a travel ban because of "possible corruption". We're talking 12.4 trillion Rupiah, for those who are lost with all these zero's, that's approximately €815 million ($906 million). Now three board members of PT Jiwasraya were detained and being charged of corruption after questioning by the Attorney General.

The previous minister of state-owned companies Rini Soemarno, who has really made a mess during the past 5 years, filed a complaint (3 days before the inauguration of the new ministerial team) against PT Jiwasraya, to cover her @ss I guess.

PT Asabrie is also a state-owned company which manages pensions for the army, the national police and employees of the Ministry of Defense. There seems to be 10 trillion Rupiah (€645 million) which has evaporated, .

Let’s demonstrate against the movie theater that they want to open next to the mosque. Say no to those Chinese bastards!

Oh My ! What a beautiful statement that is, thank you for sharing the link !
With 15 years in remote Indonesia I can witness that the changes brought after Jokowi's first election are extremely significant, be it in terms of infrastructures (OK we were starting from very low) or drastic reduction of corruption.
I can't see how to push the country farther without a decent education, it is mentioned in the article. But here again we are starting from very low level, 5 years won't be enough for the job. Jokowi referred apparently to inefficient civil servants. So let's take this as an example. When a new law is being implemented, it is declined from Central Government offices to Provincial then Regional offices who in turn, organise what they call "sosialisasi" meetings with the different bodies concerned by the new law, in order to explain the main aspects of it. Well, I can witness that last time I attended, none of the agents had actually read the law. They have been explained themselves by their hierarchy, but never take notes so remember as best they can for the restitution. That's a true drama in Indonesia : people don't read, and are not encouraged to. If you wish to understand what the law says exactly there's only one solution : read it by yourself !
So yes : eduction, education, and education. And it also replies to your second question. I may be wrong, but I think you can ask educated people to fight intolerance, whereas uneducated people will prefer to stick to their beliefs and will tend to embrace whichever statement, fake or true, that goes in the sense of their beliefs. It was particularly noticeable during the last elections : the speed at which the most ridiculous fakes were shared and commented positively was impressive.
Nothing is easier than influence a person who has no tool to sort the true from the false.

Haven't heard anything recently about Joko's earlier assertion about investigating human rights abuses. Is there a standing committee or how was this supposed to happen? I guess we will all be astonished when Prabowo is called to account for the missing students.

What about the highly uneducated intolerant people? I've met way too many of them who are highly educated in all manners of worldly things. But when it comes to theological issues, they are not only intolerant but hold extreme views.

In a political process against some Papuans, judges and prosecutor refused to enter the court room since these defendants insisted in wearing their traditional attire with koteka.

Yes, the burden of membership in a culturally advanced society can be more than frustrating when forced to live along side local degenerates.

Yenny Wahid, a daughter of former president Gus Dur, becomes a Komisaris for Garuda.

It seems to be a similar solution as Ahok's appointment for Pertamina, another state company which is in a very messy condition.

Talking about Ahok, he is having meetings with for instance the Minister of Social Affairs, Juliari Batubara.

Which seems to make sense, if you want to reassess the subsidies on LPJ and bensin. If you want those to go to the right people in society, the first step is to identify them.

Similar to those who would be entitled to 'free' health insurance, one must be included in the so-called PBI. This is a list of people who need help and who are entitled to assistance.

For that, they maintain a special database with people who are seen as less fortunate and in the lower layers of society. This social index is called DTKS, people with level 4 or lower are seen as 'poor'.

Now of course to properly start to use these systems fits perfectly in the plan to finally avoid giving practically everyone access to the subsidized fuels.

So Ahok will be the one to cut fuel subsidies ? That can’t go down well with the general population.

Something that is going on for days now, is the Harun soap.

After the elections, a PDI-P member who was elected for a seat in the DPR, passed away.

No problem you'd say, then they take the number two, right? Nope, the PDI-P decided differently and wanted their number four in that position. Someone named Harun who got much less votes than the number two (5.600 vs 44.000).

They even went so far, that they bribed someone from the election committee to grease the wheels and get it done. It didn't work out.

Harun left for Singapore and they found out that he had already returned to Indonesia. Well, the press did, Imigrasi was incapable of telling whether an Indonesian subject had returned from abroad or not. ?

Now today the Secretary General of the party shed some light on the question why the hell they wanted Harun in that position; he got a scholarship at the time from the British queen! ?
