This video documents a live Q&A session from the program "Pasti Ada Solusi" (There is Always a Solution) featuring the Indonesian Minister of Law, Supratman, and his staff. In this live casting, an Indonesian citizen residing in Singapore named Feni Cendana shares her grievances regarding her delayed application to renounce her Indonesian citizenship, which had been stuck since January.
Supratman said the ministry has purposely tightened the verification process for renouncing citizenship. This policy was implemented because past applicants were later found to have outstanding tax issues, ties to terrorism, or other criminal backgrounds. The government must ensure all applicants are clean and clear of any legal or financial obligations to Indonesia before letting them leave its jurisdiction. Just to make people aware of that this problem is not specific to Indonesia. If verification for a single person take so long how do they suppose to run other administrative issue. Let alone they only take action once the person takes part in the show to showcase her case to public.
The minister confirms that they already have apps for the application, but it was simply stuck due to a
system glitch during the initial verification phase in the app. Feni was instructed to
re-upload her existing documents using a new account on the system (euphemism to
re-apply or we have lost it

) that same day. What is the point of spending money, having an app, and IT system if the systems even delays the process.
Singapore generally does not allow dual citizenship for adults. Any foreigner who wants to become Singaporean citizenship must renounce his foreign nationalities first. So for Feni Cendana, there is an opportunity cost here as if the renouncing Indonesian citizenship is delayed she can not become a Singaporean national. If the case like this happens to other countries, there will be a lot of lawyers would want to take the case on 'no win no fee' basis aiming for big compensation.
