This is the Toyota Camry Hybrid 2019.

It will set you back 806 Juta. That is a little over $57.000 (€50K).

Its price in the US starts at $40.000.

Rather disappointing to see that -despite the promise- there was no plan presented before the end of 2018, to stimulate cars with alternative power trains.
.

True, But you do lose out a bit on torque and towing capabilities, right?

Btw, I’m not sure if it is smart marketing to announce the next generation will already arrive in two years and be co-developed with the Nissan?

:p

Popular sticker in RI:

But seriously, I wished more of the Grab/Go/Blue Bird cars over here were automatic. It would get them to focus more on traffic (and then they are capable driving up a ramp).

Earlier HD-X had a bigger 2.8-litre engine to close the gap on power and torque but it seems all Triton models now have the same 2.5-litre engine.

I remember laughing (and feeling proud) the first time I saw "Real Men have Three Pedals" bumper sticker because my car was manual. I prefer manual, if I can only have one car, it has to be manual. "Rich Men use Two Pedals" should have been "Rich Men use No Pedals (because they have drivers)" :D. In the States, manual cars are more expensive than automatic. In Indonesia, even the cheapest people's car like Agya already have two pedals.

Driving up a ramp? How about climbing a hill? During the last Lebaran, Yogya police advised motorists driving cars with automatic transmission to not climb Cinomati because many cars stalled trying to go up https://www.liputan6.com/news/read/...k-diimbau-tak-lewat-tanjakan-cinomati-ada-apa

Yeah that's what you get when the engine is rather weak. I remember the same situation with a -rather small- rental in Colorado; it did not even want to keep the cruise control activated uphill.

It seems Honda will be closing its factory in Swindon UK, blaming BREXIT obviously. Quite some people will lose their jobs.

No impact here; the Indonesian cars are or manufactured locally, or in Thailand, or in Malaysia or in Japan.

So Nissan introduced a new Serena and Livina.

images

As expected the (Grand) Livina has become a MPV which is more SUV-like.

The fact it looks like a Mitsubishi Expander, is no coincidence. They share their base. So the collaboration between Renault/Nissan/Mitsubishi leads to more and more cars in the alliance with shared platforms.

Yippeeeee....Hill Start Assist, a feature of that new Livina:

They listened.

The price of the the new Livina (they removed the word Grand but it is a 7-seater) starts at 200 million rupiah. Which is in line with its competitors.

Honda is getting a bit nervous of all that new competition and 'leaked' information to the car press they will announce two new cars.

Probably during the next IIMS end of April. One will be definitely a facelifted Mobilio, the other is unknown but the rumors indicate it could be a WR-V or even Freed.

As said, the car expo IIMS will take place end of April. Recommended if you think about buying a new vehicle and want to see multiple options, or if you're simply interested in cars.

It's a shame the huge Chinese Car Expo will take place in Shanghai that same period. (They alternate between Beijing and Shanghai.) My choice was easy.

In a mall I had a look at a car of a brand that I had kinda ignored before, the (new) Hyundai Santa Fe. The i10 and i20 are a bit boring but not bad cars, but unlike in Europe, their price setting doesn't make them very competitive.

The Santa Fe is priced between 510 and 630 Juta. Always automatic, with mostly Diesel engines and normally in 2WD. Of course it is full option, you get things as LED lights, a giant sunroof, drive modes Eco, Sport and Smart, etc. And a nice warranty of course. But would you need these options in Indonesia? A sunroof is heavy so rather bad for the point of gravity in a SUV, and it makes the Aircon work overtime. LED lights are cool and probably the future,...oh no, that's laser lights.

So it really doesn't offer anything that the Japanese competition does not have. And its residual value is questionable at best. Then for me it's a no-brainer, go for the Fortuner, look at the Terra or wait a bit for the facelifted Pajero Sport when you are in the market for a larger SUV. (Okay, medium sized for our American friends here.) And if you really have money to spend, the three German premium brands all have their line-ups available here, the Volvo XC90 gets a facelift btw.

Another reason I had a look at the Hyundai stand, was that Hyundai and Kia currently have a big advantage on their competition in the electric car arena.

Where Tesla, Jaguar and Audi offer very expensive solutions, and Toyota & Honda still on hybrids and going toward hydrogen, the Kia E-Niro and Hyundai Kona Electric are siblings which offer a good range (>300 km) at a competitive price. In Europe, the waiting after ordering is already over a year.

Obviously the sales persons could not tell me anything about their plans for BEV's in Indonesia.

There are two big trends in car country.

The first one is split headlights...

The second one is a light strip (or reflective only for the cheaper cars) between the rear lights.

So you have one large wide area of LED on the back....

After introduction of the renewed Ertiga Hybrid Diesel, these are the hybrids available in Indonesia with their prices:

Suzuki Ertiga Diesel Hybrid Rp 219,5 juta.
– Honda CR-Z CVT Rp 535,014 juta.
– Honda CR-Z M/T Rp 497,5 juta.
– Honda CR-Z ZVT Rp 519 juta.
– Toyota All New Alphard Hybrid Rp 1,4 miliar.
– Toyota All New Camry 2.5 Hybrid Rp 758,7 juta.
– Toyota Prius Hybrid 1.8 A/T Rp 635,9 juta.
– Lexus ES 300 h Rp 1,035 miliar.
– Lexus ES GS 2012 450h Rp 1,378 miliar.
– Lexus New RX 450h Rp 1,42 miliar.
– Nissan X-Trail Hybrid Rp 633,7 juta.

As you can see, most models are far more expensive than their full ICE counterpart.

In case of the Prius, the price is much higher since the addition of the electric engine, made it a 4x4 and put it in a different Tax class .

The Suzuki common rail diesel in combination with the hybrid system, has not been very popular in Indonesia, even if it did/does offer good value for those who drive many km's per year. It's a shame it seems Suzuki Indonesia will not sell the new model.

From autoexpress:

"The initial UK production run of 900 Kia e-Niros has already sold out, and new orders will be delayed due to a supply chain bottleneck
Kia has sold all 900 e-Niros allocated for the UK market in 2019 in a matter of weeks. Lead times are set to increase for future orders, with the next batch of e-Niros not being set to land in the UK until 2020 due to a manufacturing bottleneck."

So why even bother with unchartered territories, eh countries?

Why not dump them in Java? Its certainly a shorter haul, assuming the cars come from Korea.

Jakarta Bay?

Btw, Honda made a statement that all new cars sold in Europe will be electrified as of 2025. That sounds much more impressive than it is; it does not mean that every Honda will be electric. The manufacturer refers to cars with a mild hybrid, hybrid, plug-in or fully electric powertrain on board. So even a 48V which recuperates brake energy would qualify.

In Geneva, Mazda presented the CX-4. Oh sh!t we already use that name for a model in China?! Okay then we call it the CX-30.....

Perfectly positioned between the CX-3 and CX-5. Bit more coupé like, optically speaking.

Not a fan of the wheel well plastic bits...

Yes the plastic is a bit overkill. Probably won't be so obvious in a black color.

I think they're over doing it. I can understand the CX-3 as a competitor to the HR-V or CH-R.

Why not jump straight to CX-5?
