During the car expo GIAS early August, Hyundai will present its facelifted H-1.

Between 427 and 527 juta.

Quite some improvements; better dual sliding doors, interior lighting, enhanced captain seats, etc.

Something that is also interesting, esp. for city traffic and parking, is the abundant presence of cameras, giving extensive surround views of the car.

buying cars on credit can be better actually, pay a dp, put the rest on credit, build up a good credit rating here, get better discount, and usually car finance only about 3% so you can keep your cash at the bank and earn more than the car finance is costing

I don't do credit. That sounds pretentious but there is a way to get what your talking about and still pay in cash. Most lenders have a grace period where the loan can be paid off without penalty. I've taken advantage of that twice in the past. Make the deal, haggle, haggle, haggle, (mostly over price) and then sign the loan docs only to come back a week later and plunk down the total loan balance.

Something I would consider (in Europe) now, is the personal lease. So for €300-450 per month, you get a car without ownership (so a bit like financial lease, non operational). And obviously everything besides gasoline is included; taxes, warranty and all repairs, winter tires, full insurance, replacement car. After two (or three) years you get another car and you can always up- or downgrade.

The advantage is you're not stuck with a car to get rid of after so many years. In Western Europe, it is becoming a real issue to sell your 2nd hand diesel car. But more importantly; the rules (on city and regional level) are changing so rapidly now, it could be your current new car will not be allowed to drive into a city center one year from now. Or the taxes double since it's a car with the 'wrong' engine type.

As of 2021 many new rules and regulations will have been established, the car manufacturers are preparing for that, so as of then it will be 'safe' to purchase a car again, and the prices of new technologies will have normalized.

The question is what the new rules, perks and advantages of the Indonesian government for low emission will be. Currently the hybrids are ridiculously expensive (e.g. X-Trail, Camry) and a Lexus RXh is not even available.

There are no environmental concerns in Trump land. My 20 year old car is no problem. In fact, the annual tax burden has diminished to a relatively small amount. The rate is inversely tied to age; emissions generation is not a consideration.

Done it with furniture purchase before. One place back home, buying cash was more expensive then their no interest 12-36month scheme. No early payment penalty. Sure!

We're looking at two vehicles in particular, the Toyota Fortuner or Mistubishi Pajero.

Either of these selections should still qualify you for the "rich" bule status.

I believe there is a rule that requires Fortuner and Pajero vehicles to be driven with a sense of arrogant entitlement. Be sure and check the owner's manual; you may need some additional training.

In every country certain cars (and their drivers) have a particular image I guess. I remember Jeremy Clarkson stating that 'Audi drivers are the new cocks' (previously that was BMW).

The older Fortuner is rather popular to be pimped here. And often with blue flashlights in the radiator and with a siren. So then the police can execute a traffic check action every five years and proudly announce in the press they caught these rascals.

Talking about Audi, they have just released pictures of their new Q3. This is a car you practically never see in Indonesia (unlike its competitor the BMW X1). Probably the sales price between 700 and 900 juta for such a relatively small car, played a major role.

Currently Audi has one of the highest quality interiors. But Mercedes has done a great job in improving their dashboards lately; they're real beauties. BMW is lagging behind.

I agree with Audi, my preferred brand but totally overpriced here and just no fun to enjoy in Jak macet, plus the scrapes and dents would break my heart

Even with dieselgate etc., Audi is doing quite well worldwide. A 4,5% growth, to half a million cars the first half of the year. Esp. China (+20%) is doing very well, big losses in France and Germany.

The cheapest Audi in Indonesia is the A3 Sportback, for 665 juta. The most expensive is the R8 5.2 V10 for 8,5 milyar.

A Q5 is 1,5 milyar rupiah. For that money you have three Mazda's CX-5. It just doesn't make sense.

I've got my eye on the new Suzuki Jimny, guess will be in IDO 2019. Sure, it will be small and bouncy but not that ever need to drive fast, and the option to go into 4WD will be nice.

Now THAT is the way to go! In some perverse way I've been admiring (and scaring wife by saying "One day I will buy one of those"...) those old, original square Kijangs. No-nonsense proper cars.

Couple of rumors:

There would be a completely new Avanza introduced end of this year.

The Nissan Kicks would replace the Nissan Juke. As elesewhere in the world besides Europe, also since it is produced in Malaysia.

The Honda WR-V, in my eyes a failed inbred between the HR-V and Mobilio, would also be introduced here in a couple of months.
