CX-9 and CX-8 would both be great. But also a CX-4 would be kinda cool; it is a more coupé-like sportier version of the popular CX-5. I can only imagine the price though.

While googling the CX-8, I saw pics of the CX-4. It's really slick.

They launched the CX-3 here, despite a fairly high price, so maybe all hope is not lost?

They stopped selling the mx-5 though, that sucks!

Yes, that is a shame. Luckily I bought the Fiat 124 (which is practically the same car) so the European periods compensate a lot.

I have no idea why that CX-4 is a 'Japan only car'. But it will come to China also. It would do very well in the European markets and even here it would sell.

I had a 124 and Alfa Spider in the past, and still regret selling them at the time. But they rusted like crazy of course and every day a new surprise, which made them not very trustworthy. Now I have some young- and oldtimers (e.g. Z1, M3) but see them more as investment, not to drive around with a lot. So I needed a fun car. Bit for cruising, day trips, etc. Well, it really delivers. I did not take the Abarth version since it is only loud and hard and uncompromising without any other advantages. I liked the engine and exterior better comparing it to the Mazda. The Alfa Romeo 4C was just too expensive for its limited use (although probably a good investment in the long term), as well as the Boxster. And they were even more impractical.

The Z1 is one of 38 that were produced in black with full red interior. Rather rare. Wouldn't dream of selling it to get the 4C. But talking about rare: The M3's are the Cecotto and the E30 cabriolet. Since they're older than 25 years US import will be easier without technical restrictions. So my friend in the US is pushing me to sell...

When the roof was closed it got very noisy and open you got blown away without additional wind screen. The cars I did not regret selling, were a MG and the Peugeot 304 cabrio btw.

Maybe not true Kei cars but Indonesia has many cars that follow the governments five elements of the LGCC policy dubbed "S.U.P.E.R.", an acronym for "Spacious, Useful, Practical, Efficient, and Reasonable".

One being Wagon R another is Renault Kwid and as stated Honda Brio and Toyota/Diahatsu Agya and maybe even Nissan March

True, but those Low Cost Green Cars only form 15% of the market. Gengsi is important, right? Even a Nissan Go (+) has it difficult. The Agya and Ayla are the biggest sellers. The Kwid we don't know yet of course (comes from India).

Well, this is Asia? I think also that Indonesians tend to have larger families so smaller cars are a no,no. It is not by accident that Kijang/Innova is or used to be the "national" car.

But even in three row models there are NEW ($10K) alternatives for that worn out 5-year-old XENIA that they often prefer; a Datsun Go + for instance.

So if I get the job I'll probably get the Wagon R as that would appear to be the nearest dealer but I'll sit in an Ignis first. As I'll only need it as an alternative to a m/bike for shopping/golf and 90 km once a week trips to south of JKT or north of Bandung.
I figure it will be like driving the old Fiat 500 should be good for a laugh.

In your case you probably would save a lot of money taking Uber/Grab/GoCar. Like I said somewhere before, most people can take four 15 km trips per day during the whole year and it still will be cheaper than owning a car. For Jakarta-Bandung, the luxureous shuttle busses are a perfect solution. (And you won't be dog-tired after the trip.)

I would try to cough up the extra 30 million for the Ignis anytime. It really is that much better than a Karimun.

And the resale value will also be more interesting, esp. since it's a completely new car with nice retro elements. The Karimun is in its current version already four years old.

Dealership and workshop locations are with low mileage and current maintenance schedules not that important anymore, so wouldn't anything besides a Suzuki be an alternative?

And in a price class of a 100 juta, I would seriously consider the Datsun Go and Daihatsu Aylia (which is a bit of a little space miracle, I sat in the back with my 1,8 meter a couple of times without problems).

Datsun GO+ got 1 star on the crash test, Renault Kwid got 0 stars on crash test.
They are selling crappy cars here, take care.

Pedestrian safety, @centurion? Blind spot monitoring? And Lane support systems? In a country where they are able to drive with 5 cars next to each other on a three lane road? And in cities where you're more standing still than moving? Amount of airbags? Pff, in many cases they don't function correctly and over here I wouldn't worry about my knees.

I'm sorry but these crash tests I take with a kilo of salt. Esp. in a third world country where the parameters and demands are unrealistic and where the safety measures won't add a alot of value. And they change constantly btw, this year's 2 star car is better than a 3 star from a couple of years ago.

While never say never Uber/Grab/GoCar would be my absolute last choice as it is simply a internet startup way of being the ultimate capitalist. Sit at home raking in the money while the proletariat do all the work.

Where I will be going near JKT and Bandung there will be no minivans anywhere near there and then I still have to get home.. I would have to book the van for all day by myself but I will explore the cost. Here in Thailand it is about 1 mil Rp per day plus fuel. So maybe? That would be about 50 million a year for two years. Plus all the shopping trips or nights out for diner/shopping. Then there is a short 12km -ish commute.

Eventually there has to be a reason to accept the job and I've always fancied a Wagon R. The latest iteration of which was launched in Japan in February, so with my luck the new one will get to Indonesia just after I buy mine. I think the latest GS with the automated manual is only about two years old but yes the current platform is the old 5th generation.
