Perhaps not all changing stations have one of these coffe shops?

PLN states there are currently 6 charging stations, of which 3 are at the PLN HQ. A new one is foreseen at PIM.

It seems that 20 manufacturers (Mitsubishi, BMW, ...) have signed a 'memo of understanding' in which they commit to work towards energy efficiency with PLN etc. Of course this got triggered by the recent PerPres which talked about electric vehicles.

About that PerPres (55): I think it's all still rather vague, but at least it opens the door for possible tax reductions, subsidies, parking facilities, etc. etc.
 
Next week Mitsubishi Indonesia will introduce a new car, a MPV crossover [sic].

If you look at the picture, you'd conclude it will be a more off-road-like version of their Xpander. So more ground clearance, some (plastic) side skirts and mudguards, etc.

So a bit what Honda did when it introduced the BR-V, a variant of the Mobilio.

Btw, compared to the Xpander the sibling Livina from Nissan is considered the better car by (cf. the specialized Press).

Mitsubishi does offer a plug-in hybrid in Indonesia.

It’s the Outlander PHEV, which is not the same as the smaller ASX / Outlander Sport. Its size is somewhat comparable to the Pajero Sport, next to the electric engine it has a 2.4 liter. Now the model itself is in fact quite old (2013, renewed in 2018), more than 200.000 cars have been sold.

The price of this car in Indonesia is......

.... Rp 1.289.000.000. Which is more than double what you would pay for this car in Europe or so.

Ya ya, great measures so far to stimulate these types of cars....
 
GM states that they will keep on providing support and have service centers available in Indonesia (after March 2020) for the existing Chevrolet cars, even if the brand will not be sold anymore.

All very nice, but of course warranty, recalls and (availability and prices of) spare parts could become an issue.
 
White is again the most popular color for new cars. Worldwide 38% of all cars sold are white. Black and (silver)grey complete the top 3.

In Indonesia the color of the car has a rather big impact on the resale (possibility and value).
 
Nissan is doing a bit of a road show. During November/December they will visit malls in most larger cities.

It looks like the Nissan LEAF* will be one of the first Electric Vehicles (BEV) to be sold in Indonesia, they expect an introduction in 2020.

The second generation of this car exists since 2017. Interesting to see that in tests comparing it to the cheapest version of the Tesla Model 3 which is comparable in range and price, the Nissan loses in practically every aspect. (The seats in the back are a bit better.)

One of the weak points of the electric cars is battery management (heating up in cold climates and cooling down in hot climates).

* Toyota has been betting on Hydrogen, for them battery based Hybrid and full electric were just in-between solutions. Now that the market and demand has changed they have a backlog, just like those who were betting on Diesel before.

For those not aware; a hydrogen car is in fact also an electric vehicle.

The difference is that hydrogen, just like gasoline, needs to be bought and filled at a station. While the battery (pack) based vehicles can be charged anywhere -fast or slow- depending on the availability and type of the listrik.

Needles to say, the Shells/BP's/.... of the world are more in favor of hydrogen. Many car manufacturers (GM, VW, MB, Toyota, ...) followed their line of thinking and did not consider battery packs as viable long term alternatives. Now those companies are in panic mode to also introduce these cars.
 
^ You mean the 7 series that existed 15 years ago? That was an experiment which lived a very short life. It had a combustion engine that offered both, hydrogen and gasoline. Some other brands as Ford and Mazda also experimented with that.

Currently ALL* hydrogen cars are based on a fuel-cell. That means electric.


* in fact there are only three models commercially available but future models will also have fuel-cells

So as battery based electric vehicles, a hydrogen car (with fuel-cell) has one or more electric motors.

Normally these electric vehicles have one engine, sometimes two. (Front and back.) In certain cases there can even be an electric motor at every wheel.

The reason that electric cars are capable of being quicker than conventional cars, is that they generate much more torque which is important for acceleration (so moving the vehicle forward).

Also, there is no gearbox anymore and power is available at every moment.

Batteries are still a weak point, the next step is solid state. Another argument contra is that most batteries use cobalt, which comes from mines in Africa, often via child labor. Hydrogen is very expensive and environmentally unfriendly to make* and transport. And some people simply love the noise of the combustion engine of their sport car.

Different countries different visions. Norway and the Netherlands for instance, promote the battery pack based electric vehicles. They offer a huge amount of charging points. Germany is investing in hydrogen stations, the necessary power should come from wind parks.

Hydrogen (and fuel-cell) does have some major disadvantages vis-à-vis full electric though. First of all there are more parts and components, as H storage. The fuel-cell stack (often) needs to be water cooled. And also something like a turbo is necessary to provide it with enough air. (Requires a big and clean filter!) Then the air first needs to be cooled and humidified.

I'd buy an i3 if the price was right but I'd need the extender pack for real world driving.
 
Yeah £26K more than 'at home' makes it a bit absurd.

A range extender is not a bad idea if you need a bigger range, you have a small gasoline engine running in the background then to charge the batteries.

The weird thing is that the Lexus RX is not available as hybrid here (anymore). But the previous model was also crazy expensive.
