WHAT A GAME !!!!

So both Germany and The Netherlands are out of the tournament after losing on penalties.

Both coaches got a lot of criticism for their choices. People felt that Nagelsmann's system was too rigid and that he never made Germany a real team. Netherlands’ Koeman got scrutinized because of his choice for a 5 player defense. Very ‘unDutch’ and cowardly, it also made no sense after the last game.

Both England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 and Belgium 🇧🇪 were almost kicked out.

The game between the USA 🇺🇸 and Bosnia H 🇧🇦 will start in 20 minutes. In Indonesia you can watch it live on TVRI (free digital via antenna).

The ending of Belgium 🇧🇪 against Senegal 🇸🇳 was kind of absurd.

But the game which just ended between Portugal 🇵🇹 and Croatia 🇭🇷 also raises some eyebrows.

In the final moment of the extended time Croatia made the 2-2 equalizer. But it was canceled because of offside.

Now if you see the position of the Croatian player, that looks very obvious since he has only one player (the keeper) in front of him.

But but but; it depends on how he got the ball. Was it an accidental deflection or a deliberate play? The referee and VAR decided for the former.

So Portugal wins and continues, Croatia is out.

  • Accidental Deflection: If your teammate passes the ball to you and it accidentally ricochets off an opponent who had no time to react, you are offside.
  • Deliberate Play: If a defending player intentionally attempts to control, pass, or clear the ball and it goes to you, you are not offside, even if you were standing in an offside position. The defender is considered to have intentionally reset the play.

Ref says ET 10mins
Goal scored 90+13
How. Why.
Then play continues for 4 more mins.

So why now does 10 become 17. No subs made. 30 seconds for the PO goal celeb. No injuries.

I do wish the title for this thread could be changed. "

Michael vs Michael. 🎯 What a great game."

to "

Michael vs Michael. 🎯 What a great game to some people but boring as all get go to others."

Jetstar, I suspect that poking fun at someone's favourite sport is about as dangerous as mocking someone's religion. No offence really intended even though it might risk being stoned to death in some countries. So, y'all, enjoy your great game.

It’s not necessarily my favorite sport, but it is without a doubt the most popular and well known sport in the world.

And for many expats it’s besides the family & friends back home a bit of a last connection with their home country. Personally I don’t follow the politics there anymore and feel like I’m European citizen but in sports it’s a different matter.

Anyway, Argentina 🇦🇷 just barely beat Cape Verde 🇨🇻 in extended time. That underdog did amazingly well and never gave up. And the current world champion will probably play the finals but imho -unlike a France- they don’t deserve it and their (easy) playing schedule seems a bit of a FIFA scheme.

The Australians 🇦🇺 must have a bit of of bad taste in their mouth after they lost from Egypt 🇪🇬 with penalties. The first time that country got so far in the championship btw.
