I work online/remote and want to file my taxes here as I will save some money doing so.
Are there any agencies which offer Kitas or is this even a common practice where people get a Kitas just to get a longer term option than social visa/tourist visa even though they are not working on the ground here for a local company.

You could purchase 1.25 billion IDR shares of a PT PMA and get an investor kitas. That is the legitimate option with the fewest strings attached (compared with a work visa, marriage, retirement, etc), but choose wisely what company you purchase shares.

Yes, it must be in your name in order for you to get the investor KITAS. You could potentially receive dividends and sell those shares later in theory, but I suspect you are correct that it is a minefield. The agency telling you 10 billion is talking about setting up a new PT PMA solely in your name. Not only is this more expensive, but you are then expected to be conducting an actual business. If you can find a trustworthy existing PT PMA (good luck) you do not need to become a director and are in fact not permitted to become involved with business operations in any way.

My opinion but likely any savings you might receive by paying taxes in Indonesia will likely be offset by the costs involved in setting up and doing business in Indonesia. If you are talking about saving an amount large enough to offset the time and trouble, then a few billion IDR would be the least of your worries. The country you are actually doing business from will expect their fair share also.

These are short term capital gains from trading etc. I was doing these trades while on Indonesian soil (>183 days stay during the tax year). The complication is I don't have the tax file# here (social visa). I will try to find a way here but if that doesn't work or is too complicated then I'll have to file from my home base country.

I'm a little confused. The say they will provide you a tax number to file taxes but then they say you are not allowed to work and earn IDR. Seems contradictory to me.

Its actually an investor visa with shareholders. she showed me some official looking documents with director listed along with a few foreigners listed in the company. So I would be added as a shareholder under the business and then the Kitas given under that. That's my understanding. I asked for a reference and thay put me in touch with a girl from Holland who came here during the pandemic. She seemed happy with the service so far. So I am thinking of going with them.
The agency is VisaAgentBali in Canggu.

How are you supposed to get NPWP?
They will file the NPWP for 500k. Also get Domicile letter for Vaccine.

What about the IMTA?
Dont know what IMTA is.

KITAS is for residence. IMTA is the work permit. Without an IMTA you're not allowed to work in the country. You are not allowed to work on a multi-entry business visa, but it allows you to attend business meetings, exhibitions etc.

Your KITAS will have an address on it. That is supposed to be your actual address. If Immigration comes by that place and discovers it is not your address, you will have more trouble than you want (you are required to inform them if you move). I have never moved my KITAS/KITAP between provinces, but it is my understanding that there are hoops to jump through in the process.

Best to keep it all legal and accurate, you'll sleep easier.

It sounds as though they plan to issue you the 1.25 billion in fictitious shares. This will work, until it doesn't. It's fraud and they may never get caught, but if they do they will be in deep trouble. You would likely be quickly deported.

Yes, name them. Go on some Bali Facebook groups and name them and ask for direct messages if people have any bad experiences. I recently heard of an agency that scammed many people and since they had some police connections they were intimidating people who left public negative reviews with criminal slander charges under the UU ITE law.

This is normal. Indonesia collects tax on worldwide income and most local tax offices will gladly issue an NPWP for anyone on KITAS or KITAP, perhaps even those staying more than 183 days on visit visas.

It's clearly a 2 year investor (non-director) visa, that's what the agent said and it matches the description perfectly. No IMTA, no working, get KITAS and NPWP. The fishy part is that they are going to claim that @hollister actually purchased 1.25 billion IDR shares in the company, which is fraud, but there is no tangible victim so perhaps it is unlikely to be investigated or uncovered.

This sounds like they want to create a new PMA for you, unlike the previous agent which will add you to their existing PMA. If you are not actually opening a business with 10 billion IDR in capital (700k USD) this is also fraudulent, but much more work, and I suspect much more likely to be discovered and shuttered than the other agency's option.
