Another speculation about Prabowo joining Jokowi's administration is that Jokowi needs him to deal with the rise of Islam populism which has threatened his first tenure of office. The Islamic groups piggybacked Prabowo during the election but the devastating result set them apart. Having a NU senior cleric as his vice president is an attempt of gaining support from the largest Islamic organisation and this was successful in helping Jokowi to win the election. As Prabowo was an important ally for Islamic groups, the inclusion of Prabowo into Jokowi's cabinet was seen as a way of undermining the Islam politics.
