A recent survey has found Indonesia to be some of the least stressed people in the world. The country was also recently identified as some of the laziest walkers in the world which caused me to wonder if there might be a correlation between the two. 25% of Indonesian's surveyed said they don't suffer from stress. I'd be interested to see a similar survey of expats.

First launched in 2014, the Cigna 360° Well-Being Survey -- Future Assured explores people's perceptions and concerns on well-being in five key areas, namely physical, family, social, financial and work.
Cigna Indonesia said in a statement that Indonesia's stress level was considered low because only 75 per cent of the respondents claimed that they suffered from stress, compared to a global average of 86 per cent.

In comparison, more than 91 per cent of respondents in Singapore and Thailand claimed that they suffered from stress.

Maybe they are, maybe they aint. So much depends upon the "perceptions" in different countries as to what constitutes stress. If you are in a workplace where the bosses treat workers like dirt and yell at them whenever they speak they might think that a day where they are yelled at just a few times in the day was a non stressful day. In another workplace where everyone speaks politely a worker who was yelled at twice that day might think they have had a terribly stressful day.

How many polls have you had where you are asked to nominate A B or C as the answer when none of them really represent what you would regard as a suitable answer. Would you vote for the government if an election were held next election? A yes, B no, C not sure? Where you might prefer to say, "if the government dropped the proposed increase in the GST (General Service Tax) I would vote for the government."

I'm not so sure about those result. Just spend a day in Jakarta's traffic should be enough to increase your stress level through the roof, and that's on a holiday.

Nongkrong is definitely one of the best things about Indonesia. Guess 'chillaxing' would be the english equivalent.

But the skill to be happy & content just hanging out doing nothing, vs worrying about getting ahead is cool. Basically a nation of type B, not type A personalities
