The headline doesn't bother me quite so much as the other bits...
Headline being this...
" Indonesia's parliament has approved a new criminal code that will make sex outside of marriage punishable by up to a year in prison."

Other bits being this...
"The new criminal code will not come into effect for another three years and also includes a ban on insulting the president and speaking out against state ideology." I would hope that these bits get much more specific definitions , otherwise it could get very messy.

Yes, it starts to be uncomfortable. A couple years ago I sat in Bandung at a Restaurant and drank a beer, shortly after this, alcohol was banned, now to come the 'not married sex thing' and next will be hijab for everyone. This will be the time, when they rename the country to: New Saudindo.

Next chapter in this drama: Wednesday, 14 February 2024

Election day in Indonesia, liberalism or religion fanatic, we'll see

The new criminal code will come into effect within three years of its passing, i.e. before Dec. 6, 2025. That’s more than enough time to get acquainted with some of the newest provisions so we can all stay out of trouble.
