Hyperloop Transportation Technologies (HTT), one of the entities developing a type of futuristic vacuum-tube based transportation system, says it’s conducting a US$2.5 million feasibility study for three possible routes in Indonesia.

Bibop and his local partners, entrepreneurs Dwi Putranto Sulaksono and Ron Mullers, signed the agreement in the presence of Indonesia’s ministry of transportation yesterday.

The company will map out how it could develop Hyperloop systems on three routes in Indonesia: one in North Sumatra, one connecting airports across the Island of Java, and the third connecting Jakarta with satellite town Tangerang.

The Hyperloop is basically a long tube which is depressurized to the point of near vacuum. Inside, passenger-carrying capsules float due to magnetic levitation. Of course, it could also be used to transport goods. The near frictionless propulsion makes the Hyperloop energy efficient.

Is feasibility study a code word for government boondoggle (a word that is much trickier to spell than i expected) to visit a test track and a quick payout for the others.....

Hyperloop ? Indonesia ?
You gotta be kidding me. I helped my friend dealing with SKDU Permits (Domicile) days ago, the local govt guy charged 1,5 million for a piece of paper that shouldve been free. With that level of personnels, Hyperloop ?

Really ?

I would like to be considerate, and allow everyone else to go first :) I'll just wait here, no need to bother about a seat for me...

While not denying that the Musk idea will revolutionize transportation....to even think of a feasibility study for a start-up in Indonesia is well...words escape me.

Musk made his ideas open-source and HTT is a 'crowdfunded' re-seller of the concept. I wouldn't be surprised if the US$2.5M will go to lavish hotels, dining and family holidays for those doing the studies.

I have 100% confidence they'll finish it up in record time.

Edited: I meant using up the funds...and half built tunnels.
