LIke I said the best easiest safest way is enter ID on the US pp just get a B1 online instantly for $35 before you fly. A day before do the customs forms.

When you check in at the US airport with your US passport they will ask to see you ID visa. B1. Which you have. With egate.

That's a PDF you can show them. It's VOA

30 seconds after you've gone through the eye scanner egate machine on arrival you get an email from immigration with a PDF which is your B1 valid for 30 days inc.

In 15 days go online and click to extend. Must upload pp. Pp pic. Dep ticket. Pay $35. Then next day or within 3 days go to the immigration office nearest your address it will tell you. There you have an interview. Photos. Signing. Then that B1 is extended 30 days. Another PDF by email.

No more extensions. Have to depart by the date on that visa. 30 days including that same day.

Finish.

You will lose everything. All your social security etc. And it's going to be a long complicated expensive process to regain your Indonesian passport.

Remember you absolutely cannot have 2 passports. It's completely illegal.

I suggest you to first read the 2007's Regulation , select the specific Articles applicable to you , and later check the 2022's Regulation to know if those Articles were revised or not (if a specific Article is not in 2022's Regulation it means that Article in 2007's Regulation is still in force , was not revised) . Take a final look at the 2022's Regulation to be sure no new Article (that affects you) was created .

From a quick look , besides the generics in the beginning , your specific rules start at BAB V , Bagian Ketiga , Article 43 .

Getting a US visa is easy if you are rich, if you are young and have a job tying you to indonesia. When you get older/ retired/ ill then it won't be so straightforward and as Snpark says - who know what the orange tyrant will do at any stage.

I know several people who have had 3rd 4th 5th visits visa rejected in the last 6-12 months despite multiple previous trips

My wife was denied a visa to the US before we were married even though she owns a business in Indonesia. She has a sister in the US and that scares the hell out of immigration. So no, having a job or even owning a business doesn't make it easy to get a US visa.

Thank you for the reply. I noticed on this link, https://peraturan.bpk.go.id/Details/211179/pp-no-21-tahun-2022, that it mentions in Government Regulation (PP) Number 21 of 2022, that I must apply for regaining Indonesian citizenship via the Minister.

Couldn't I simply travel to Indonesia, apply for regaining Indonesian citizenship? Then if I am rejected, wouldn't they tell me what I need to do to qualify for regaining Indonesian citizenship? I suppose even if my application was rejected, then it would be a step in the right direction given that they would tell me what I did wrong. I could possibly re-apply again after I found out what they require.

There is a so called PP (Government Regulation) that tells you about the procedures for acquiring, losing, canceling, and regaining Indonesian citizenship. Look for PP number 21 of 2022, that one amends the PP number 2 of 2007.

But the issue here is more that the Indonesian government doesn’t seem aware you got a foreign citizenship. I wonder what would happen if you just applied for a new passport.

Yes, thank you. I suppose applying for Indonesian Citizenship with the intent to regain Indonesian citizenship would be interesting. Even a rejected citizenship application would yield some sort of feedback and let me know how to regain Indonesian citizenship or let me know if I still have Indonesian citizenship.

Yes, I am absolutely willing to give up U.S citizenship. I want out of the U.S.A and want to get rid of U.S citizenship. Renouncing U.S citizenship is actually growing in interest by the year with Americans from all walks of life. I would never imagine returning to the U.S.A ever again, so I would not miss much. I understand social security is a grey area and I have heard that former U.S citizens can still collect social security payments.

From what I have been reading up on, various sources say regaining Indonesian citizenship is very difficult, and other sources say that if an Indonesian national never formally renounced citizenship, then they are still, technically Indonesian citizens. It almost sounds like they could regain it since they did not renounce it.

Given that Indonesia only allows one citizenship, then by regaining my Indonesian citizenship, I would automatically lose my U.S citizenship. Americans automatically lose U.S citizenship when they gain citizenship in a country such as Indonesia that does not have dual citizenship. This works out great for me.

So to summarize, I want out of the U.S.A and I want to permanently divorce U.S citizenship. Regaining my Indonesian citizenship is the logical path to both accomplish this and to allow me to live permanently in Indonesia.

If you want to regain your Indonesian citizenship, they will ask you evidence such as statement letter from embassies, home office that you have started the process of renouncing your other citizenships and will only grant you an Indonesian Citizenship once you renounce your citizenship (get confirmation).

I think Indonesian Immigration might still miss the loophole for those who have multiple (not just dual) citizenships. A few people have three citizenships. If this is the case they just need to renounce one but they still have 1-2 they could use. Unless people voluntarily tell them, there is no way they could know how many other nationalities people still have.

Right, I understand that I could go that route. However, I was also interested in learning about how former Indonesians can stay in Indonesia for five years of whatever length of time is required and then apply for Indonesian citizenship. I know that an Indonesian national can return to Indonesia and apply for citizenship if they reside continuously in Indonesia for five years, or something like that. A visa or some sort of permanent residency would be required first, to grant me the permission to stay in Indonesia for five years.

That staying in Indonesia for 5 consecutive years (or 10 non-consecutive years) to get the citizenship has in fact nothing to do with ex WNI or not; that applies to most foreigners (who don’t have a WNI spouse).

And then you’d just walk the KITAS - KITAP path. The GCI program is just another way of staying in the country for 5+ years (for certain groups).

For those who have lost their citizenship and want to become the Indonesian citizen, they will need to apply via 'naturalisation'. It is stated in Article 8 & 9 of citizenship law law UU_No_12_2006 - Indonesian Citizenship Law.

Article 8
Citizenship of the Rep. of Indonesia may be acquired through naturalisation

Article 9
Requests for naturalisation may be forwarded by the applicant upon meeting the following requirements:
a. Aged 18 (eighteen) or married;
b. At the time of forwarding the application, the applicant has resided in Indonesian territory for at least 5 (five) consecutive years or at least 10 (ten) years intermittently;
c. Sound in health and mind;
d. Able to speak Bahasa Indonesia and acknowledges the state basic principles of Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution;
e. Was never legally prosecuted due to acts of crime and sentenced jail for 1 (one) year or more;
f. Upon acquiring Indonesian Citizenship, will relinquish any other citizenship;
g. Employed and/or has a steady income; and
h. Pay a naturalisation fee to the Government Treasury.

Because you will need to meet residential requirement, you can not do it while still living abroad. To get a stay permit to meet residential requirement, there are various routes available, such as apply for E32C first. This stay perm will only last for 2 years but it could be renewed/extended. But the easiest and less complicated option (but more expensive) is to apply for GCI, e.g E32E, with this visa you could stay in Indonesia for 5yr+ (unlimited). After meeting the residential requirement you could then apply fro naturalisation.

There is no such thing as 'regaining Indonesian citizenship'. For those who have lost their citizenship, they will need to apply to become an Indonesian citizen via 'naturalisation'.
To become an Indonesian citizen it is stated in Article 9 of citizenship law UU_No_12_2006 - Indonesian Citizenship Law.

If it is just to comply with the 5 consecutive years + having a KITAP , the cheapest ways would be :

1) The Diaspora 1 year Visa & KITAS E32D (Rp6 million) , then at its end you change it to a 5 years KITAP (Rp10.5 million) . The E32D requires a US$10,000 investment .

2) The Diaspora 2 years Visa & KITAS E32C (Rp8.5 million) , then between 1 year and 2 years change it to a 5 year KITAP (10.5 million) . The E32C needs the sponsorship of a close relative .
