Garden visitors

found it in our garden, very small approx. 5mm; identified by Picture Insect App as Citrus Flatid Planthopper (Metcalfa pruinosa). Not really sure.

I found these critters swimming in the bucket full of rain water in the morning after whole night raining. Very tiny, approx 1 mm dia, 20 cm length, look comparison with a rice grain. I dont think it's juvenile eel or snake. No idea, but that bug me how they are there?

I believe they might be Horsehair worms.
" Horsehair worms are parasitic worms of the clade Nematoida alongside their sister taxa Nematoda, the roundworms. The most famous trait of certain species of horsehair worms is the ability to alter the behaviour of grasshoppers and crickets to seek water, causing the host to drown itself to complete its lifecycle"

They are pretty creepy & could be described as turning crickets into Zombies-
Personally , I think of them as the Zombie worm.
They are apparently harmless to humans, however, still creepy.

Thanks BA, you are correct. I just realised a body of dying praying mantis near the bucket. I didn't think any correlation between the mantis and this monster. Indeed very creepy, luckily no harm to human

Can you imagine a fate more vile than a worm getting into your body and inside your brain and growing so big it fills it & then it steers you to drown yourself so that it can escape- it is like a plot from some weird alien or zombie movie indeed. They have been found in pets and in humans too... shudder!

there is a type of fugus, or something else, that grows in caterpillars in Tibet. It eats the caterpillar from the inside out, until the caterpillar dies. It has been found to be very beneficial to people. Its called Cordyceps.

RFK jr?

Long time ago I found a Penguin book on parasites. Fascinating but gruesome. There are so many different creatures make humans as their host sometimes barely noticeable but often horrific. The tape worm is not nice to contemplate. Had a near death experience with malaria. Bilharzia is another nasty. Then there is a worm that burrows beneath the skin and can sometimes can be removed as it burrows its way across the bridge of the nose. It can also burrow into the eye.

That photo is Gross! But actually, if you think about it. Humans are the worst parasite ever. Just look how they treat each other, the planet, not to mention all the wildlife! This subject made me say that.
Actually there some wonderful people out there, doing good deeds, for each other, the planet, and the wildlife. Too bad, it's not catching like a virus, and making all humans do the same.

Robert F Kennedy Jr, recently reported that he had some sort of worm that had eaten part of his brain. From eating undercooked pork.

It certainly would explain some of his actions, in running for US president, and anti-vax theories.

Ahh, I see. Thanks for the explanation. :)
