Does anybody in this forum really think blasphemy should be a crime???

Pasal karet, thanks for that. I always appreciate posts that increase my feeble knowledge of Indonesian.

The Mass Organization suggested bill is getting some flak from some legislatures. Seems they are saying that such a bill to quiet some mass organizations would stifle free speech. I think someone should actually define free speech since it seems it is only used when serving particular interest. I'm all for free speech but it needs to be a freedom for all. You can't complain about what someone says and then want a protection for your words.

I think they need to go forth with this Mass Organization bill. Not to quiet them but to take away whatever power they feel they have over others. If they table it, the Radical Mass organizations just claim more power over the Government.

In reality, the Ahok issue has nothing to do with blasphemy. It is about the old guard pissed off at being frozen out of the corruption money pot by Ahok and Jokowi. They want both out at any cost and the spurious blasphemy charge is their ticket for Ahok's demise - no prize for guessing who's funding all those out of town protesters clogging Jakarta. And no, blasphemy shouldn't be a crime so long as it is not done with the intent to offend or create disharmony between races/religions, in which case it would be called sedition (which I believe is also a crime in Indonesia...)

The above is exactly how I see the situation.....it has nothing to do with blasphemy and a lot to do with anarchy.
The quicker the actors (traitors in my book) are found, using the money trail, the better for ALL Indonesians.

Sharks around Ahok and all through the system up to Jokowi. Ahok has confronted some corruption and has a lot of enemies. Even with Ahok out of the loop briefly some already changing Jakarta budgets to "give" money. It is a culture and you try to change it, guess what, you have a lot of enemies. MONEY POWER Religion.

There are so many blasphemous acts committed in Indonesia daily by everyone such as putting ketchup on pizza, dimsum without pork, celebrating Christmas with over the top loud festivities instead of tranquil reflection. I would just bless their heart and know that they'll forever burn in hell for those transgressions. :biggrin1:
