One of the main problems is they hoped to have a lot of overseas / private investment and financing but at the end very few funds / countries / investors are interested...It will be interesting to see how this pans out. A huge amount of money has already been spent with construction but as it seems the world moves into a period of economic turbulence it may become difficult to keep providing the necessary funding. I have seen talk of a sea wall to protect Jakarta but that doesn't mitigate the continued of sinking Jakarta and presumably flooding will get worse.
