Demonstrations planned against ... Coldplay?

When you are in a foreign country you respect their laws. Simple.
Or you do not come to this country.

But then, these kind of countries will become the part of the cultural and civilisational periheria.

Now a band called "the 1975" has cancelled its concert in Indonesia, although in this case it is not Indonesia's fault.
The tragic thing is their Taiwanese fans (if any) will also miss out. LGBT is legal there.

So yeah, while I find the antics and the Malaysian reaction amusing (canceling the whole event, of which they are only one of the acts) ... it's rather immature and smacks of a publicity stunt. I wonder if they will be on the hook for all the refunds.

Is missing them really tragic? We can see nitwits anywhere.

Yeah its not tragic but this carry on has me very irritated with 1975. I got the fancy tickets to WTF this year and of the 3 artists I had name recognition with when I bought my tickets 2 of them pulled out. I know its a festival so lineups change but I really didnt get value for money and I doubt I'll go to WTF ever again. So shit for the organizers - who did executive a great event (the venue was great - the set up etc. I just didnt really like any of the bands I got to see!).
AND 1975 made a mockery of an important issue - if you are going to raise LGBT issues in SE Asia dont do it from a stage while drunk kissing a bandmate - he didnt make a point, he just made a huge fool of himself and left a vulnerable group open for attack. Very irritated with the whole thing!

Actually he did a point and exposed the system as a backward and bigoted, sending a costly signal.
Alternative for any artist claiming being progressive is to avoid backward and bigoted countries.

So basically it's an Extinction Rebellion sort of point, I suppose. With lots of collateral damage.

The point he made was overwhelmed by his drunken state/behavior. He did it to get attention for himself, not to raise the plight of LGBT people (which he now claims to be an ally of).
The system maybe backward and bigoted but if you asked for an open vote about LGBT in Malaysia or Indonesia you wont get a forward and friendly reaction - unfortunately in these countries the populace is generally very anti-LGBT.

I went to the WTF main stage for the 1975 replacement act and the band made a negative comment about the "fucking 1975" and got a HUGE cheer from the crowd. The "point" didnt hit here. People are just pissed off with 1975 (and some of this tarnishes LGBT rights issues).

Yes 1975 guy was drunk, drinking on stage, swearing and spitting at the crowd and being rude and highly offensive to the government etc on stage before using his band member. All for his own publicity. If you hear or read what he actually said, he didn't care.
It was selfish.
Happy to take the money and then run away. He didn't stay to make any press conference or statement etc.

Everyone is angry at him.
He is a nobody. God knows what squeaky clean Taylor Swift saw in him except an opportunity to sell more tickets as usual.

Nothing positive gained here except now 1975 will disappear.

Disagree, as he send expensive signal where his skin was in the game. The band cancelled the remaining cities, losing money, and could be exposed to penalties or prosecution in Malaysia.

Comfort and pleasuing the spectators is irrelevant, as more important message had to be sent.

We will see how the Coldplay thing will go.

I dont think he had any skin in the game - the promoters are screwed, he loses a small bit of cash from obscure asian countries he never bothered to look up before accepting bookings (in places that are famously anti-LGBT rights).
Taiwan obv just didnt want a drunk egomanic on the stage - they are quite LGBT friendly.

He obviously made a point for you - but few else seem to have got to where you are.

Shoul stick to the batik, sinetron and tempeh and dangdut

to quote:

“I made a mistake. When we were booking shows, I wasn’t looking into it. I don’t see the fucking point, right, I do not see the point of inviting The 1975 to a country and then telling us who we can have sex with,” said Healy.

He continued: “I am sorry if that offends you and you’re religious and it’s part of your fucking government, but your government are a bunch of fucking retards and I don’t care anymore. If you push, I am going to push back. I am not in the fucking mood, I’m not in the fucking mood.”

and so on. He appologised for making a mistake coming to Malaysia.

The boy needs to learn some adjectives.
He comes across as a self-absorbed moron.

Why so?
Don't you think basic human rights are more important than audience's good time?
He didn't do anything for human rights. If he was quoted accurately, he knows no adjective other than 'fucking' so he's inarticulate, which is an indicator of stupidity. Another sign of low intelligence is pulling a poorly thought out stunt with negative ramifications for many others, like he just did.
His comments show disdain for others' views and feelings and that he is his only concern.
That's why.

I dont think celebrities should lecture about morals etc. They are paid to perform and entertain.
Sure, same like prostitutes-you pay and you get fun. Beyonce sang to Gaddafi's son for 2 million USD.

But not everybody agrees to be a high-paid prostitute. If something goes against own convictions, raising voice in hostile environment is a brave act. Women in Iran protesting against hijabs were also "breaking the laws and morals", and many of them were killed.

Living in Indonesia, where the government is canning gays, made you conditioned for human right abuses as something acceptable.
