Data registration for pre-paid phone SIM cards

As for tourist they can reg there Sims card at any place with just a passport. Not that it will be nessercy from what I understand cause I was told when you buy a new Sims card you will have 30 days to reg it.
That may change.
Here' a good business plan of setting up a booth at airports that sell , install and reg card on the spot.
Anyway me and the wife stopped by at telekon office and reg 3 Sims cards , it took 15 with our passport and didn' cost anything.

Deadline today!

Most offer SMS or websites registration possibilities.

BTW, my NIK doesn't work on the Telkomsel site, only the one of a WNI. Coincidence?

Thanks for the reminder.

I went to XL twice. Once in November and once 2 weeks ago. Both times they took copies of my passport and kitap saying they would forward to head office and I would hear from them. Twice it didn't happen.

I called the customer service and they said it's on process but somehow I don't believe them and I have a feeling that tomorrow I won't have service anymore.

I tried with my own KK and NIK via SMS, app or web and it doesn't work either.

In the mean time, coconuts Indonesia publishes a method to check the activation status on XL which obviously doesn't work. I don't know why I was expecting them to do anything beyond copy paste translations of Indonesian tabloids, such as actually verifying shit works before publishing.

My mate arrived yesterday from the UK and bought a SIM at a shop in Mangga Dua.

They registered it for him with just his passport no probs. No one mentioned NIK or KK.

I know others who haven't registered but so far no-one has lost their connection.

So whats going on.?

The first days the SIM would not be completely blocked. (So as of tomorrow.) And only pre-paid cards are affected of course, subscription SIMs are by definition already registered. A passport (e.g. for non residents) will do but then you need to be physically at the shop.

Considering the number of spam texts I get I am amazed I have not had a barrage of reminders from Telkomsel

In fact I have hardly seen or heard anything about it, even on local tv or news or any texts or emails from Telkomsel?
Bit strange considering it is supposed to be so important

I saw an ad on IG about texting *444# and I did that and it asked for a 16 (?) digit # to register, but my KITAS etc I couldn't find any number that matched what they wanted?

That's the NIK we talked about. On the KTP (for KITAP holders). If I remember correctly, on the SKTT for KITAS holders. You also need if if you want to buy a car or so.

I hope the highlighted above is correct.
I'm like E_G ....I registered last year and again a few weeks ago with XL...and received no confirmation. We went to XL today and the place was packed...so we left.

To check (you could enter the info again):

It wouldn't recognise my NIK - probably because the last digit is different to a WNI KTP number. Hubby's ends in a 2, mine in a 1. Other WNI I know have a 2 at the end also. So I just registered them all in his name, online.

Despite me telling my wife many times about the requirement starting from last year, she went into a panic about 10 minutes ago to register our documents..Social media friends told her today it was necessary and she would lose access tomorrow.. I just wonder how many people are in the same boat and doing this now?

20 minutes later, I am told I am told "all fixed, don't worry, be happy". Love it or hate it, this is the Indonesian culture in my life.

That means they were the second person registered (and born) that day...

Unfortunately, my phone now says...'Not registered on this network'. Typical.

I registered mine months ago with wife's info. Then wife tries a few weeks later, and it doesn't work. Went to Plasa Telkomsel and they can't help either: the system connects to government database and that's the one's that screwed up. Had them check my number, and they said it is fine. I pointed out that this is the same exact info as my wife's, and all they had to say was sorry, please try again in a few weeks time, and keep trying.

Thanks a lot to whoever thought up this hare brained scheme.

Great ideas lousy execution. Sounds familiar, right?

We registered three IM3 SIM cards and one Telcomsel using my wife's KTP via the text message method. Thus far, it appears to have worked.
