Cold cuts in Malang

Laws, regulation and education plenty ... but in this paper also they say

However, even though there is already a WWTP (Sewon Wastewater Treatment Plant) in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, for example, it cannot be denied that quite a few households do not have adequate wastewater treatment connections, so dirty water pollutes the environment.

Btw: Sewon processes greywater waste centrally.

This video must be from years ago, because the cost of goods and transport, she was quoting are half price of what the cost are today. But still a positive video.

Yes, I agree. She is way too positive. Foreigners can not just stay and live here. Residence permits changed a lot. Specially the retirement permits.

I saw other videos of her. Explaining the differences in cultures without explaining the "why".

I just arrived in Yogya.
First impression is good.
Way less traffic. No crazy drivers like in Jakarta. Traffic stops for red lights 🤣. Smooth roads with 'aspalt' and no holes.

Also, prices in this hotel compared to Jakarta, are very reasonable.

According to Youtube the video was just uploaded a month ago. Not sure if it was reposted from years ago.

I dont see anything strange on the price she mentioned, 2 liter bimoli in Bali I just bought today for Rp. 43,000 - cheaper than her price, though not from Grand Lucky. Rental house certainly depend on the location, I paid around USD 100 for nice villa ( a bit old, no AC) with more than 1000m2 land in karangasem Bali. Eggs here is also cheaper than her price.

Perumahan Vasana. In the middle of city and in the middle of kampung. Houses (130 m2) for 3M. Not really cheap. Considering this is Yogyakarta.

You can get a general idea of the cost of living and renting in major cities in Indonesia by looking at the previously shared minimum wage statistics.

If you are looking for a big city without traffic congestion and with efficient drainage or canal systems, good waste collection and management in Indonesia and you might be having a hard time finding one. But keep in mind traffic congestion can often be avoided by living outside high-traffic areas and travelling during off-peak hours. This flexibility is particularly convenient for people on retirement, as they can always plan their travel according to their own schedule, rather than depending on other people business schedule.

Some people say that living in Bali is expensive, but imo this largely depends on your lifestyle. If you adopt a nomadic or exclusive tourist lifestyle living in popular areas like Canggu or Seminyak, certainly the costs of living will be high. But this is not just applicable in Bali, it is everywhere in the world.

However, other parts of Bali may offer a more affordable living cost. This perspective is based on someone's sharing personal experience of living in Bali.

Yes I agree. I don't think a person can find a nice house for such a low price now,2024. Unless there is no hot water, fans, AC, small rooms. Even a cheap hotel, cost at least $300 a month. And only $15 a month for a motorbike means he doesn't drive much. The point is yes, there are many options here, and a person can have a great time in Bali. But his prices for everything are not accurate, now at the end of 2024.

He also forgot the costs for visa/kitas. As said before residence permits changed a lot, specially for retirees.

This morning we visited some perumahans ... Citra Sun Garden, Casa Grande and Hyarta Eco Park. Rent fully furnished round 200 juta per year.

Although he has not mentioned it, I do not think it has hot water, AC. Small room ??. Well typically residential house will have at least two bedrooms with one double bed, other wise the owner will be having hard time to sell it.

But majority of houses in Indonesia do not have hot water, AC. The fan could be easily sorted using portable fan. Also consider about the electrical power requirement by having hot water, AC.

You can not compare a room in a hotel with a house meant for living. Houses are typically rented for long-term stays, while hotel rooms are rented for short-term, temporary stay. For someone planning to stay for more than a year, it makes sense to choose a long-term rental, like renting a house or lodging, rather than paying for a hotel room daily. It's far more affordable and offers greater flexibility.

Did you watch his video? Looks like a decent house. There is an AC unit in his bedroom.

I’ve run into this before in Indonesia. If you’re in heavily tourist places, you’re not going to find the $600 a year houses. If you go further out, and deal with normal houses that Indonesians rent, not through real estate people, you’ll find a much better deal.

Sounds like he found the house through local friends, which is certainly the way to go.

I just replayed it again, indeed it has AC in the bedroom.
$600 a year for houses like that is a bargain imo. This actually serves as another evidence that if you patiently search for it you could get a bargain.

But in Indonesia people also advertise rent for $5,000 A MONTH, like in this thread. The location is not even in the city centre.

For the vast majority of people In Indonesia, US$5,000 will be enough to feed the whole family for A YEAR. I believe, It is only the people who do not do their deskwork, the dumbass, or those who get rental subsidy from their employers would want to rent a house like that. For very wealthy Indonesians ? Not really, They would rather build their own home.

Sorry, but I just can't believe that you can find a nice house, with hot water, AC, for $600 a year. Anywhere near a tourist town. And like someone else said. He didn't mention the cost of the Kitas visa. His job description sounds like a good scam to get stupid people to pay big bucks. An inspirational coach. hah! He's also not allowed to work in Indonesia. Careful there Charlie!

What you need to be aware here is that. The house in the video clip has the AC, but it does not say it has hot water. A small AC will only need around 2kW, but for electric power shower, you will need at least 7.5kW.

Yes, Bali is a tourist city, but I am not aware anywhere in the video says the location is near a tourist spot. So I still believe that if you spent time searching for it, you could still find a decent two bedroom house for USD$600pa in Bali a few years ago. Think about local people with family with salary of IDR5m per month where do they live ?. Also there is no incentive for this guy for not telling the truth.

In a house (not a flat) you can use a gas powered water heater.
It's the case where I live.

600 USD / year = 850 k Rp per month. Surprising, but depending on location, and why would the guy lie ?
