Car information and advice wanted.

I traded my manual Calya for a Rush, no trouble at all, I guess I got lowballed a little but not enough for me to want the hassles of selling privately and faffing around.
Not sure how the Rush is $10,000 more expensive than the Daihatsu car SNPark mentioned.
There was a price difference, yes, but certainly nothing like that.
However Toyota (the name ) sells better - so bear in mind , despite them being identical vehicles and made in the same factory etc - many buyers are unaware of this hence there being more Toyotas than anything on the road.
I know this because I am a saddo who counts vehicle makes as I drive up & down the toll roads to stop me from going nuts with boredom.

Also- if you cannot nego on the price too much get them to throw in free services.
I got 3 years of free service & seat covers & a few little extras thrown in.
Am curious as to why you went from Calya to Rush? How did you find Calya with the 180cm ground clearance? And how do you regard the overall performance of the Calya? I understand that the Calya has less power. How does it manage with steep hills?

How big a difference was there between the trade in allowance for the Calya compared with what the general market value might have seemed to be had you sold privately? On paper our Avanza is still owned by my wife's daughter so a trade in would seem to be a much easier process than selling privately. This would also avoid having to enter into a loan for basically the full amount were we to buy a new car as we would keep the Avanza until the new purchase.

And with the big difference between Toyota prices and Daihatsu I take it the price difference was not an issue.

I went from Calya to Rush because I wanted an automatic car for the hubby to drive- new driver- not great on the gears
The transmission in the Calya was probably one of the worst MTs I ever drove- but, for a cheap car it was an ok car.
The power on the hills is a factor as we live halfway up a mountain - the clearance is a factor because of all the potholes & polisi tidur- the main factor was that I wanted something with more headroom, I felt like I was eye-level with the sun-visor in the Calya.
I recently had an Avanza (rental) for 2 weeks, not sure I liked it compared to the Rush- yes Avanza had more gizmos, but it just felt low to the ground and I didn't like the farty-about hybrid AT/MT thing it has going on.
The Rush is no frills even top spec (which I have) it has a parking camera & adjustable steering wheel. Basically stick it in the mode with the big letter D & go (R for reverse- P for parking almost foolproof) However, I do around 1000km a month and it has been no hassles at all for the 2 years I had it.
The only glitch at all was when I was recently in hospital & the hubby drove it , and when parking it he amazingly drove it straight into a tree (not reversing either), as if that wasn't enough he decided to change parking spaces at the hospital & then side-swiped another car as he was reversing it.
Sigh.
None of the above were the fault of the car at all. Hubby is still alive, I have yet to decide his punishment.

Trade in difference probably 5 million or so against the advertised price of something similar- I forget . However the for sale price versus the actual paid price may be different- so I just went with the easy route.

Also- buy from ready stock on the forecourt- we got ours during Covid times & the Calya went in & I was without car whilst waiting for the new vehicle... not quite the instant exchange one would expect.
Just go down to the dealers & see what they offer. It won't cost you anything only a little time- then take a look at whet they have, You are much more likely to get a fuller impression than in here.

Thank you your replies.

Daihatsu Terios 203jt 1.5 AT
Toyota Rush 306jt 1.5 AT

Both brand new 24 model OTR

So 100jt for a badge. My advice remove the DH badge and glue on a Toyota badge and save 99,995,000 rp

Yes exactly help them empty their forecourt for the new facelift models stock etc and you get a better deal
Maybe even the ex demo one

I didn't spend anywhere near 306 jt on my Rush

170jt for a 12 year old car?? Dude you can buy a BRAND NEW wulang for that much, at least it has warranty for 2-3 years then sell it in 3 years for 130jt to some kid wanting to be a grab driver
I have also checked the Wuling cars, nope, not comparebel at all.

& I just looked online & apparently it is now worth more than I paid for it hahahaha
I don't doubt that for cars in that class. There were a couple of years where the list price climbed a lot with no change in the car, making the older ones hold tremedous value. It is a strange market for cars here.

Market here flooded with new Chinese brands, if its just a daily car just honestly buy new from dealer and flog it in 2 years or trade in for a new one

Some of these cheapy ones are surprisingly good
I am always in grab cars and trying to work out which ones have decent a/c and seats in the leg room
But for 200jt you can easily get a new decent 5-7 seat mpv suv style

I have also checked the Wuling cars, nope, not comparebel at all.

So are you telling me that if I give you 170jt now you would rather buy a 13 year old Chevrolet (in Indonesia!) rather than a brand spanking new Chinese car from the showroom, full option, warranty, etc etc etc ?

Ok.

Even the Terios is only 203jt and less for the manual one

In 2020, I bought a 2012 VW Golf TSI with 30,000km or so for 135JT which I sold for exactly the same price a couple month ago with an extra 40K on the odometer. I spent about 20JT in maintenance over the 3 years of ownership, so overall I think it was a pretty good deal. I had to get a little creative with spare parts when things broke and not trust the local official dealers who are out to rip you off. It really meant buying spare parts of ebay for half price (wheel speed sensors and AC control panel). The worst offender was the ABS Module which died and I was facing a 15jt bill for a second hand replacement but managed to find a guy to actually fix the circuit board (the ABS pump was still working fine) for 7JT.
But with the car passing the 10-year mark, I figured it was time to let it go, especially since I don't use it all that much lately.

I'm now in the market for something else. I'm not trying to hijack this thread but I've been looking at a bit more fun cars in the 2nd hand market. Currently on my radar are the 2017/18 Hyundai Kona and Mazda CX-3, both cars having a bit of ground clearance, automatic, more power, more fun and better looking than the Rush, Avanza, etc, for less than 300JT. Might be something worth considering.

If you have some mechanical skills I imagine there's all sorts out there. So many classic car underground clubs and societies here for classic VW or cosworth or lotus or mg or beetles etc for sure.
Even old school beemers and mercy

I also suggest buying new.

Toyota gives 3 years free maintenance on new cars plus a 4th year if mileage is under a certain limit.

Meanwhile with the present 2015 model we have a rust hole occurred at the top of the rear panel which opens up as the rear entrance. It is the size of a small coin. The insurance recommended bengkel sees the solution as to remove that whole back panel and replace it which seems incredibly wasteful not to mention needlessly expensive. We are in Bali in the Jimbaran area. Can anyone recommend a bengkel which might plug the hole, sand it and paint over it? Have thought maybe a surf board repair shop could do the job with fibreglass. Went to one near Puri Gading but post Covid it has closed.

And thank you everyone for responses to original post.
