A similar accident just happened in Hong Kong where technical skills/maintenance is readily available....and I shudder.

Guess you talk about the escalator incident in Mongkok (Langham Place)? Stayed there couple of weeks ago, and showed some European friends the 'highest escalator of Hong Kong. Gloop.

Escalators get rather infamous in China. Many people jump at the end of the stairs since that previous incident.

See, they eat people, mainly children. Nasty creatures those Escalators.

Escalators definitely eat children's toes, the little wedge bits that the escalator slides into break off, so little kids here who don't wear shoes even adults let their feet slide to the end get caught where the little wedge piece is missing, it snatches the toes, happened a few times here in jakarta, so next time you use an escalator here don't slide off the end, also not how many escalators have these little wedge teeth broken off
