Anyone affected by the Bali water shortage? Is it real? Is there much talk on Bali about this? I read a few articles but am interested in others opinions/views.

Looks to be plenty today in Dempasars streets.

Yes, it looks like problem solved. There does not look like a water shortage. Thanks.

There's always a water shortage in Bali as the Balinese have never wanted to create a fixed reservoir....for ceremonial reasons. The same goes for geothermal or other ways to produce electricity...they prefer submerged cables from Java.

The Bukit seems the area most affected in the south as they cannot drill deep enough....their water is often tanked in. They have piped city-water but I hear it isn't very strong nor consistent.

During the rainy season it isn't too bad for those with wells but, come June, it can be problematic if the water-table gets too low.

I read that the ground water is being used up and could be at crisis levels by 2020?

That was ironic right? Floods do not mean that the problem is solved, neither heavy rainfall. Most of it ends up as runoff in the rivers, then the ocean.
Too much in a short amount of time does not allow the ground to adsorb it since it is saturated.

The issue will not be solved unless all of us, instead of witnessing water shortages, take real action. You should contact IDEP Foundation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wK4m62BXU1Q

In Bali our water often looks like Thai tea. Nice brown. And that’s not from a well ( that is very salty) but from the official PADM.

Talking about that; suddenly there is no water anymore in the Jimbaran area.

Everybody surprised of course and nobody from the water supply company picks up the phone, as usual.

So when you go to their Instagram tirtamangutama page, you see this:

And one day later it doesn’t look good.

Another reason not to abandon social media!

The resort I live in has a well..
The water is ok, but when filling the bathtub, better put plenty foam in it so you don't see the color.... The foam suits us fine.

But dont use that water for cooking !

And I dont need social media to know that.....

There's no problem with water here in East Bali. The village-managed water network for housing is sourced from mountain water. It's crystal clear and clean, as clear as bottled drinking water. I've tested it with aquarium test strips and compared it to Aqua. Even the subak irrigation water that irrigates our rice fields is very clear. Some upstream villagers use the subak irrigation water for bathing and washing.

That -besides the costs*- is an important reason why you should order the (water) trucks when filling up a swimming pool. They source it locally.

And they have hoses similar to a fire truck 🚒.The driver showed us once you can drink the water they deliver… I didn’t try.

* I think there goes like 6.000 liters in a truck and they’re not that expensive, if my memory serves me well 250K per truck.

Touch wood. So far no problems at Goa Gong but my wife tells me there are quite a few areas with problems. I think Puri Garden is one such area.
