Now here is a tale of corruption in Indonesia, We had a new Qualty Manager, the first thing he did was to inform me that one of my Engineers Aircraft Maintenace licence was a forgery, I checked with the DGAC and sure enough it was, so I questioned the lad, he was an Ex Garuda apprentice, when he finished his apprentiship, he and others in his entry were approached by someone from the DGAC saying for one million Rp, he could have a a licence, thinking that was the procedure, he and many others bought their Maintenace Licence, this left me with a serious problem, what do I do with all the previous work he has signed for, and do I sack him for something that wasn’t his fault, so I said You have one month to successfully pass the DGAC exams, and we will review all your previous signings, he pasted with flying colours, tale finished you think, about a week later, a couple of the sheet metal workers came to see me, they told me that the QM had said for One million Rp he could get them Aircraft Maintenace licence, they were horrified as sheet metal staff don’t have licences, I spoke to the QM he denied it, we had some problems with him, he had demanded that he controlled the company petty cash, this I had refused, anyway he had gone back to the Sheeties and made his or, proposals again, so I rang head office I told them I was sacking him, they agreed and I sacked him instantly, his parting words to me were that he new powerful people in the DGAC and they would fix me, I informed him that my friends in DGAC were more powerful than his, , we parted company, never to be seen again, talking to some friends in DGAC there are people they are trying to get rid of, so perhaps things there will improve
