Antasari claims SBY sent him word through Harry Tanoe telling him not to charge Aulia Pohan, SBY's inlaw, or there would be dire consequences. This was before Antasari was charged. What do you think? I don't have an English link yet.

From Jakarta Post today.....

Former Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) chairman Antasari Azhar accused former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) on Tuesday of being behind the murder charges that resulted in him being sentenced to 18 years in prison.
Antasari claimed that Yudhoyono had instructed tycoon Hary Tanoesoedibjo to visit him a few weeks before his arrest to ask him not to detain former Bank Indonesia deputy governor Aulia Pohan, who had been implemented in corruption.
"I demand SBY open his mouth. He knows my case. I want him to open up to the public on what he did and who he ordered to criminalize me," Antasari stated at a press conference at the National Police Criminal Investigation Department in Jakarta, adding that Yudhoyono and Aulia Pohan were related through the marriage of their children.

Antasari spoke up after President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo granted clemency to him, saying there were irregularities in the case. Antasari was released on parole after serving eight years of his sentence. The President granted him clemency not long after.
The South Jakarta District Court sentenced Antasari to 18 years in prison in 2010 for masterminding the murder of state-owned pharmaceutical company PT Putra Rajawali Banjaran director Nasrudin Zulkarnaen. Nasrudin was killed in a drive-by shooting in Tangerang on March 14, 2009.
Antarasi said that Hari Tanoesudibyo had visited him few weeks before his arrest. He visited the police office with his lawyers to report what he said were false charges laid against him, which violated Article 218 of the Criminal Code.

Also, Antasari appeared with the brother of the victim. The brother believes Antasari is innocent and the President noted irregularities in the case. Of course the timing is also right before the election today. I know Atlantis said he followed the trial and believes Antasari is guilty. What do you think?

I'll reserve my judgement until more evidence is available. The police must have something but we have all seen how justice 'works' in Indonesia.

I read that Anas Urbaningrum claims he was also framed by SBY....http://jakartaglobe.id/news/anas-urbaningrum-says-yudhoyono-framed-him-also-demands-apology/

SBY's response is to charge them with defamation...even tho' those complaints were made officially to the police.

On the other hand he said the Intelligence Service tapped his phone, which they deny...he didn't make a police report but said so on Twitter...bad move imo.

And Harry Tanie said the statement was false but he would not be filling any legal suits about it. SBY is figuring he is getting backed into a corner and he probably is. SBY just hasn't had the intellegence to fight back in any form that has giving him any sense of credibility. His decission to jump on Twitter is not helping his case either. He makes a very poor Trump impersonator in that regard.

I doubt Antasari's statements were to hurt Augus since he is so far down in the polls but he is out for SBY blood and this can have an effect on all related to SBY.

I actually edited my post to noted irregularities in the case from the President believes he is innocent. The President never said that and I don't know what the President believes on the matter.

Doesn't it surprise anyone that he never mentioned it at the time he was the powerful head of KPK? He never ever mentioned having received any pressure when he investigated Aulia Pohan, nor he mentioned it when he appealed the verdict or apply for the judicial review of his case. I am amused that it comes out now.

His claim is also ridiculous in the sense that he didn't have the power to decide alone the arrest or release of Aulia Pohan or to ditch his case. The KPK is directed by a Ketua AND 4 wakil ketua. At the time they were Chandra Hamzah, Bibit Samad Rianto, Mochammad Jasin and (sorry can't remember the name of the 4th at the moment :mmph:). Did any of them at the time of arrest mentioned having been threatened or pressured by SBY or did any of them have backed up Antasari in his new claim? The KPK is not only one man, it's a well structured organisation.

Also, did any of the 4 wakil ketua KPK have "suffered dire consequences" for having, conjointly with Antasari, taken the decision to arrest , prosecute and having incarcerated Aulia Pohan?

I believe at the time there were some other big cases the KPK were working on related to SBY. No follow through by the Ketua And 4 on the other cases as well. Consensus among many Indonesians, including those educated in law he is not a murderer. There are many things in play behind the scenes corruption money power including the judiciary (not a revelation I am sure). This is not through my analysis of the facts but in discussion with other Indonesians.

I am glad that you have conducted a survey among "many Indonesian". What amuses me is that, at the time of the trial, "many Indonesian" thought he was guilty and the medias noted with surprise that the 18 years were lighter than expected.

I am yet to meet with anyone, who would have reviewed the evidences and minutes of the trial who has a doubt about his involvement in the murder. it was true in 2009, it is still true now. At the time of his trial, I had the chance to attend two court session in PN Jakarta Selatan and to discuss with a number of lawyers, human rights activists and journalists who themselves had the chance to attend all sessions. I can't recall anyone having a serious doubt concerning the involvement of Antasari in the murder.

"Educated in law" has very little meaning. There are "many indonesian" who are "educated in law" and who believe that Ahok has committed a blaspheme for example. Many of them even though they are educated in law and Indonesian may not even have heard the recording of Ahok speech nor researched it. Yet they have an opinion, and they will make sure you know about it.

A good test to do when you hear someone giving you an opinion about the innocence of Antasari is to ask them to give you an overview of the case, asking them what happened, who was involved, what was the connection between Antasari and the other accused in the the case, were there any experts who testified and what did they say, what was the connection, if any, between Antasari and the victim, if there were among the evidences recordings, videos, testimonies..etc. You may have fun waiting for their answer and crosschecking them, and will perhaps learn how much they know about the case and evidence presented.

There has been a lot of procedural irregularities as unfortunately most if not all court cases in Indonesia, especially when there is a lot of public pressure on it. This is when the police do the worse job. Yet, it doesn't change the fact that in Antasari case, there was a lot of evidences against him.

"Amazingly", this is after the era of Anatasari as a ketua that the KPK became a real threat for politics. Some say that KPK benefited largely from him disappearing from the commission.

Guilty, not guilty. Doesn't matter. He has become a major player in the current administration's actions of keeping SBY down. Possibly to hurt his son even though he was hurting long before Antasary said anything. Most likely because of SBY's relationship with the riots/demos that occurred. Either way, it seems to be working. Working while Jokowi sits back and says, stop whining, you don't know what you're talking about. See, I am neutral.

Should SBY would have remained out of Jokowi's path, Antasari would still be in jail and very few would have found a new cause and pretend he is innocent and that they always knew it. That's for sure.
It's amazing that for the past 8 years, we've heard very few voices denouncing a set up and that now, without new evidences, everybody is ready to claim that they knew it from day 1.

Thus the reason for the evidence to have disappeared and the police say they can't really look into it any longer. I agree, he would in all likelihood stayed right where he was if SBY would have stayed out of things. Now, it is going to haunt SBY.

I know, and know more now, that you have closely followed the case, as well as, your strong interest and background in law. I have not closely followed the case and do not have a background in law esp. Indonesian law. I guess more what I am touching on is some peoples strong belief, Indonesians, in Antasari and his innocence. I know this can be true regardless of outcome eg. OJ Simpson case in the US the black community were more apt to view OJ as innocent. Some people believe the teacher from JIS is guilty etc.. For some people here it can be lack of facts, the wanting to believe in good guy vs bad guy, dislike of corruptors on and on. So I don't have people doing an in depth review of the facts but anecdotally there are many Indonesians who feel strongly in his innocence.
Also there appears to be enough people who believe SBY is dirty and therefore its easier to believe in Antasari' innocence.

I don't doubt one minute that there are a lot of people who wants to believe in Antasari's innocence. To be honest it is MUCH more seducing to believe that a former head of the anti corruption commission has been framed in a gruesome murder case because he was heavily involved in fighting corruption, than to believe that a former head of the anti corruption commission was a heartless bastard capable of masterminding a murder because he could not keep his dick in his pant.

As a side note, you perhaps know that I am french. We've had a former high pejabat involved in a rape case. This guy could have become President of France. I admit that, without knowing much about the case, it was hard for me to admit that it could be possible and, again without knowing much about the evidences produced, I would have been ready to claim that I believe he was innocent and got framed by the woman. He finally got away with it and to be honest I felt better like that. It's hard to admit that one of your fellow, who have hold positions you highly respect, can be a criminal without compassion.

Notwithstanding what anyone thinks of his guilt....what can be done. I'd imagine the case is over unless some overwhelming evidence came forth to ensure that the case be re-opened. I didn't hear Antisari say he had such evidence. Pity!

Maybe the point would make sense if someone brought in Wiliardi Wizar testimony...
Chandra Hamzah and Bibit Samad cases were intervened by the President via deponeering

Something fishy back then, but clearly, accusing Harry isnt going to make anything goes anywhere
Without valid evidence, but how would you present such kind of evidence ? audio record?
