Air Asia flight to Bali takes wrong turn.

Will not and have not used Air Asia. Even if I wanted to, my wife would refuse as she works on the one strike and you're out principle. The crash and deaths threes years ago was that one strike.
We fly Garuda in Indonesia and Qantas on flights to Australia. Around Asia it has been Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific or Garuda. To Europe in May it was Thai and probably Emirates next May because you can split the flight time with a stop over in Dubai.

It is not a matter of asserting blame. It is a matter of risk management although we are aware any aircraft can have technical issues.
Where once I would have to pay between Aud $700 - $1000 to fly return to Indonesia I now pay between $200-$300 because of AirAsia's entry into the Australian market. It was only through their competition that airfares were driven down in the region and made it affordable for people like me to fly regularly to Indo. That said, my loyalty is not unconditional and is being tested somewhat with the amount of safety issues they're having.
So as members have said, as much as we use airasia alot, we are all a bit more hesitant and are watching how they handle it. Having a one strike = out would ensure one would never sit with almost any vehicle that is piloted, captained or driven by anyone in ground, sea or air except fresh untested newbies.
Like Vanhelsing, my flying budget does not generally allow me to use Garuda or such airlines often.

This sounds like what happened to the Malaysian Airlines who for some reason went off course. Except the ground tower caught it this time! Scary.

Google priced displayed for jan 26 1-way, thought I'd share since I went to take a look.
Jakarta-Melbourne
Airasia RP 2.838 Juta
Garuda RP 5.381Juta

I flew once as crew on a Saudia flight and taking off from the old Amman Airport found myself looking at the Dead Sea from the Israel side, total bedlam in the cockpit, the INS switched itself off, all jabbering in Arabic, then calm settled as it transpired the co-pilot didn’t really know how to set the INS up, so I’m wondering if air Asia had the same problem

That is exactly what happened to this Air Asia X flight from Sydney to KL about a year ago.....
https://www.airlineratings.com/news/airasia-x-flight-11000kms-off-course/

The pilot initialised the Inertial Nav System (INS) with the wrong co-ordinates and their system did not have an auto-correct function. If you look where an aircraft is parked it is usual to see the Lat/Long printed in big letters on the departure building wall on each parking bay.
Therefore the aircraft didn't know where it was relevant to the flight plan and the Flight Management System was inaccurate.
Most airline's policy is for both pilots to independently check the INS inputted from the flight plan to avoid this error. In a 3 man crew it is often triple-checked with fuel remaining needs inputted.

On my Saudi flight the captain was the Saudia training captain, while on the deck at Amman his brain dropped to his lower region and spent all the ground time chatting the stewies, who hated him, he left the co pilot to sort the INS out, he was the reason I stopped doing flying spanner, I nearly had heart failure when he nearly stalled at altitude over India, I’m afraid my impression of Saudia local crew wasn’t up to much and several incidents told me I shouldn’t be doing this, but as this thread is about Air Asia I will not say more

I am sure it is not just Saudi, but yikes!

Another Lion Air pilot was arrested for drugs a couple of days ago, packets of meth were found in his hotel room. My preferred punishment for any pilot caught using drugs would be a lifetime ban!

Jakarta. Police arrested a senior pilot from Indonesia's biggest budget airline Lion Air in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, on Monday night (04/12) for suspected drug abuse, a Transportation Ministry official said on Wednesday.

Police raided the pilot's hotel room in Kupang, where they found packets of crystal methamphetamine, locally known as "sabu."

When I set up an engineering base at Balikpapan all staff were checked by the airport authorities for drugs, every one except me, no idea why not

With respect Van.... your above is information of the same incident I proffered in Post # 2 on Wednesday which caused controversy.
I hope a repeat of the incident doesn't create the same concerns.

They say old age doesn't come alone... I'm losing the plot. I read post 2 and completely forgot you had posted the story already.

Air Asia has a new revenue-earning trick...at least new to me.
My wife and I booked a flight next week DPS-CGK. I printed our boarding pass but where they previously put both of us in adjacent seats this time the seats were randomly selected in different parts of the aircraft. Of course we wish to be together so the only way is to upgrade and pay extra for a seat, which I did, and then found there were many random adjacent seats available in the area that I paid extra to select... just to be together.
Sometimes nickel and diming gets annoying.

Most small budget airlines do that I believe if they don't do what Easyjet and Southwest do(first come, first seat choice). Personally I don't mind that as it is about $5-10 extra and I don't have to worry about being in the middle seat.

I know American Airlines with charge for certain seats that have more leg room(emergency exits, bulk head(the one with the wall in front of you)). They charge $50 and up for those seats.

Fucking wings would have to fall off an Air Asia flight before I would use lying Air ever again.
Lol.

I thought if its bought together AND checked in together, its together?

The alternative, is to check in at the counter. If that fails, as a single traveler, I usually ask for an aisle or window seat. I've gotten red seats a few times before. ^_^

Air Asia advertises an extra charge is applied to those who use desk check-in as opposed to a web check-in.

I've travelled dozens of times with Air Asia and generally accept random seating but this is the first time where they have randomly selected non-adjacent seats for a couple/same name who booked and checked-in for the same flight.
Then I found there were many adjacent seats available so paid extra for us to be sat together.....thus my point about a subtle revenue-earning new policy.

I heard of that, but never been charged.

It sucks they are doing that non adjacent seat thing tho. It really is nickle and diming.
Worse, people who did not notice it will have a rude shock.

If they are doing on-line check-in they should get their boarding pass on-line or on-phone so the seating will be seen. Trouble with using desk check-in is if the flight is nearly full most seats will have been pre-selected... so not much choice available at that time.

Took a morning Air Asia Bali-Jakarta flight yesterday. The T.O. and climb was to the west but I managed to crick my neck around and saw Mount Agung....looked very peaceful with just a wisp of cloud.
The flight wasn't full and some rows were vacant so I don't see why the random selector couldn't have put my wife and I together without extra payment....we'll see as I already complained in writing.
Something new to me was the availability of Wi-fi on the aircraft. Apparently it's free to get entertainment but I think you have to pay for internet. I believe you ask a Flight Attendant for a code and I think they said Rp30,000...my wife was sleeping so I couldn't ask for a translation...even from their Indolish to English.

Just booked our return Air Asia flight Jakarta to Bali on Sunday and was pleasantly surprised they gave us adjacent seats, on random selection, without paying extra.
Possibly my previous complaint was a one-off and will not be repeated.
BTW This time I used Traveloka to do the booking and they didn't charge any extra for credit card (C.C.) payment...when booking directly with Air Asia they add an extra charge for this.
