Actually, I wouldn't mind paying a ticket price to go to Singapore and landed in PDX instead.

Well, they didn't land at the wrong airport. They botched their take off procedures and missed the mistake in over multiple checks, ignored multiple warnings then fucked up even worse trying to fix it while in the air. The situation got so bad that they needed to land to fix it, and because Sydney had weather and they screwed up their instruments, they were diverted to Melbourne.

It is difficult to explain to lay people just how royally they fucked up, but almost literally a trained monkey could've done a better job. They were lucky they were in Australia, which has top notch ATC and literally saved their butts. If this happened in Malaysia or Indonesia, the outcome would've probably been headline news.

This is a classic case of 'garbage in...garbage out' and the crew completely disregarding crew training.
The Co-pilot should have checked the Captain's initialization of the A/Cs position on the ramp...either he did and also made the same mistake...or maybe he didn't double-check at all.
Then they ignored all warnings that the navigation system was incorrect.....even before the T.O.
Then they both forgot, or never knew, how to correct their error.

I'm surprised if they still have licenses to fly commercial aircraft.

BTW it was an Air Asia X (Malaysian) crew.....not Indonesian Air Asia.

Scary, isn't it? I fly Air Asia all the time, and until now I haven't given it a second thought - I assumed they had their act together. Now I am not so sure.

Their tag line "We make people fly" always makes me think of groups of Lion Air employees driving around kidnapping people as they're walking down the road and bundling them blindfolded into the back of a van before they find out they've been put on a plane.

I agree...every-time I see that in an advert I cringe. Whoever thought of using that tag line as a marketing statement doesn't fully comprehend nuance in the English language.
