A new era of world wide poverty

Hmmmmm, who "wiped" them out ? Americans....
OK, in those days they were in fact Irish, Germans, Brits etc...
And while they were at it they also wiped out 70% of the REAL, NATIVE Americans....
So, no it wasn't the heat or some astroid !

Now our smart leaders in Europe decide to ban ICE cars in 10 years but it will still be OK to have wars ?
Plenty nice statistics about polution by ICE vehicles, planes etc..But did anybody ever made statictics about the Carbone Oxide released daily by the wars in Ukraine + Yemen + Gaza ?
Nope, on the contrary we feed it by sending them more weapons.

And, I am asked to use an electric bike to save the planet ?

? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
What a bloody joke !
"So, no it wasn't the heat or some astroid !" My point is that it at times of crisis it behoves us to do what we can to lessen the impact and not contribute by doing nothing because the crisis is "natural."

What about our governments setting the example ?
And considering the US and China are the biggest poluters, do you think Holland going 100% E.V. will make a difference ?
The crisis is partly natural, but agravated by human behaviour.
At least when wars were fought with swords and spears it was way more "green" and "ecological"...

Yes, I know I am cynical.

I appreciate the complexity of these issues but I daresay that if you live in a city with masses of cars then going EV should make a difference for people living in the inner city area. So I daresay that Dutch people will appreciate the benefit of the 100% EV rule. Having said that I am aware of the side issues of pollution environmental impact related to mining for rare minerals and the manufacture and disposal of dead batteries.

So true about the annihilation of the Native Americans! This people had the audacity to say it was ordained by God for them to take the land no matter the cost. They were as you said, all coming from European Nations, and were fresh on this continent. Now their descendants are trying to stop all immigration claiming that America is only for their White Asses! If there were no immigrants in America now, who would do the cooking, cleaning, farm work, construction, home building? For sure it wouldn't be the fat Mc'Donald's eating White lazy Americans!
And another sad thing now is, America continuing sending Arms to Israel. It doesn't matter if it's the Democrats or the Republicans, just look at what they're doing now in the Gaza,West Bank,Lebanon, Syria! And they continue to cry the blues, how they were so mistreated during WW11. They are doing exactly the same thing now to others!
But going electric is a good idea! If they can figure out the problem with the batteries, and being more efficient, then we should all have EV's

Surprising data but it is not deaths alone that provide a measure of human suffering. With displacement by floods, loss of crops, structural damage and other negative impacts, I suspect that in terms of suffering created by increasingly violent storms then the figures would show many millions more people living in misery attributed to extreme weather.
In the news ..

In states such as California and Louisiana, which are also considered risky due to forest fires, earthquakes and floods, the supply of insurance companies will quickly decrease. This leads to rising prices and less and less freedom of choice for homeowners, who can sometimes no longer afford to live in a certain area and eventually leave.

Due to the extreme weather conditions as a result of climate change, the discussion flares up in the US about the quality of life in risk areas. The choices that insurance companies make are a good indicator of that. Experts are gloomy about the situation.

Insurance in Florida had already sky rocketed. The vast majority of residents can't afford flood insurance premiums. Federal Florida Senate and Congressional members voted against increasing FEMA funding. Not to worry, FEMA is in Florida helping where they can. Oh, wait. Governor De Senseless has proclaimed that the cost estimates for property loss and damage is way over blown and insist that it is not FEMA but he who is in charge. Says, he is the only Sharrif in charge. And, climate change has nothing to do with anything because it is all fake.

Republican Congressional leaders are refusing to bring Congress back in session to vote for additional FEMA funding but when FEMA runs out of money they will blame FEMA and the current administration. Right now FEMA is helping and some of the same people who voted against additional funding are in Florida and other hard hit states taking credit for getting them the help.

Now here is the rub. When it comes to provision of services for the people the conservative argument is always that private control of services is better and more efficient than government services. This is always the line that is used to reduce government regulation and services such as utilities of gas, water, electricity, health etc and turning over control to the private sector usually promising better services and at less cost. Usually this proves to be the opposite with higher costs for services provided by the private sector rather than provided by government.

So now with profit margins reduced for private insurance companies as a result of ever increasing damage caused by storms, flooding and whatever the means of financially assisting people with recovery are being withdrawn. Governments will necessarily be drawn into providing greater support. The extent of that support will be determined by looking at the common wealth. (We In Australia have the term, "The Commonwealth of Australia.) It will then become a matter of adding up the gross domestic income of countries and making decisions as to the measure of emergency support and insurance cover that can be provided. Whatever the amounts decided upon you can be sure there will be a clamour from the conservative ranks with claims that this government expenditure is wasteful and inefficient. And what it ultimately comes down to is that the more priveliged sectors of society hate to see less of the pie. It is to do with the eternal struggle for power and the ability to ensure that those who have... should have more and those who have not... should get less.

One out of three.
Not many want to stop immigration. It would be nice though if Congress would get off their bribe taking butts and pass real immigration reform.
At this point going electric isn't such a green move. Maybe when they get a lot of bugs worked out it will be.

There are a lot of strange things happening on this planet earth. Could you believe that Sahara Dessert could also be flooded.

https://edition.cnn.com/2024/10/14/...m_source=pocket-newtab-en-gb&utm_medium=email The Sahara Desert flooded for the first time in decades. Here’s what it looks like
The Sahara was green long time ago.
This is not the first climat change on this planet....

"When did the Sahara Desert turn green?

Between 11,000 and 5,000 years ago

The region was once permanently home to lush greenery. Between 11,000 and 5,000 years ago, the Sahara was covered with vegetation and lakes, according to a 2012 paper authored by De Menocal. "It looks like a desert, and then when the rain comes, then everything starts greening very quickly," Trzaska said."

In the news today .. in EU.

Suppliers to the automotive industry are cutting jobs en masse. Since 2020, 86,000 jobs have been lost at manufacturers of automotive components, the largest job losses since the corona crisis. Without measures, the European automotive industry will lose its competitive position.

Logic, as BEV's contain much less parts and sub component than an ICE vehicle.

The manufacturer cut jobs because less assembly job, and it trickles down to all suppliers as many parts are not required anymore (ex starter motor, alternator, gearbox...).
Add to that the fact that OEM tend to assemble their cars in low cost countries like Eastern Europe, Marocco or Portugal and the future looks really bleak !

An interesting report today with the ABC (Aus) about the major banks in Australia launching into a big push to use AI. They all claim this is to assist staff and is not about replacing staff with AI. With the major motives in bank activity to give profit to shareholders and big bonuses to executives for creativity and "efficiency" I wonder how long before established use of AI sees many staff positions becoming redundant.

For anyone interested, here is a link to the story.

Talking about damage and human suffering .. today in Spain/Valencia. 😮

Climate scientists have previously warned that rainfall could become more intense as the Earth warms. Ernesto Rodríguez Camino of the Spanish weather institute AEMET: “This type of intense and exceptional rainfall is going to become more frequent and more intense – and therefore more destructive.” In this case, according to AEMET, some places in the Valencia region fell 445 millimeters in just a few hours: more than 400 liters per square meter. That is the heaviest rainfall in the region since September 1966.

Apparently banjir rob means tidal flood, it doesn't mean they have started naming floods in the same way they name hurricanes

Just look at the wiring and construction there! The whole place looks filthy and unhealthy. Why do people live like rats in a cage? For money?
I guess that for expats it is for the job ? I mean, who would retire in a city like that ?
For the Indonesians it is 100% about job opportunities and salary level.

Of course, in both cases, forget about quality of life.... I am not throwing the stone, I worked in several big, polluted, messy cities for the job. But the money made it worth it.
