4/11, 25/11 and 2/12 anti-Ahok demonstrations

There is the point as we experience getting visas, KTPs , stores assistants etc, that some of the staff have no idea what they are supposed to be doing as their managers haven't a clue either

He might not be so hot as president, but he was considered successful as mayor and governor.

As for the guy calling for murder, I agree that he should be brought to court for it.
I almost miss Suharto, as the smiling general would have sent the provocateur to jail.

A sentiment I hear a LOT.
Many of the people I encounter in real life, not online, seem to think Jokowi is weak and useless. They hanker for the "old days" when there was work and order in society.

.
Ahok has resumed campaigning. He was active at Pondok Kopi (JakTim). A rather strong traditional Muslim area. But with a positive reception.

I have seen a video where there were some anit Ahok chants but then the locals stated these people did not live there. So it seems they 'follow' the campaign trail.

Bear in mind that the guy Ahok inherited the position from (Jokowi) is well known as a soft-spoken man even by Indonesian standard, yet he is not considered less effective.

On the contrary, Jokowi has been a monumental disappointment.

I get what you're saying, but strength and resolve aren't necessarily the same with public display of anger. Another person who is considered very effective is Sri Mulyani, but she doesn't have a reputation as an arrogant and inconsiderate boss....

Sri Mulyani was so effective, she lost her job. That's the striking parallel to the situation now unfolding with Ahok; not their styles of management. (That's a sidebar, horse-shit issue for the hand wringers.) My hope is that the dark forces of self interest are not again successful.

Never mind the hard line and extremist Muslim. I myself is muslim but I do not share their line of thinking. I do not think Ahok remark is blasphemy. I would like to call them bullshit Muslim who used religion for the benefit of them self. Yes if former president Suharto is around this kind staff will not be tolerate. But Jokowi how ever weak he may look he still better 3 line down from him who like most people of Indonesia and me he have done better job but in a slow pace. Like Ahok when you want to do good for the masses there is some people who have personal interest will try to slow even put them in jail by whan ever mean. I was block by CNN Indonesia and Kompass news to put comment. That is Indonesia. Love and hate.

Rizieq (head of FPI) announced that Friday the 2nd of December would be a day of praying.....

.....at the Sudirman area.

Well I suppose while they are praying they aren't rioting, I think it's a bit rich though a bunch of crooks praying though, perhaps they are seeking forgiveness for all their evil deeds

And now this. No politics here. This even after people were interviewed on TV and stated they did get paid.

http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/...police-for-claiming-protesters-were-paid.html

[Incumbent Jakarta gubernatorial candidate Basuki “Ahok†Tjahaja Purnama has been reported to the police for libel, after saying that some participants of a mass demonstration on Nov. 4 were paid.
Entrepreneur Herdiansyah, who claimed to be a participant of the rally, accompanied by his lawyer Habiburohkman reported Ahok to the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim) office on Friday.

This don't surprise me.

so far Jokowi have done nothing else than protecting his own ass by visiting the different group of army and police.
He let anyone do llegal thing such publicly calling for murder being done in all impunity.

Why should we be surprise that someone libel Ahok under the libel law for saying that SOME of the participant were paid to protest under a fabricated libel.

When you are at the point to let a mayor being called suspect in a case a extremely clearly falsify proof, you can not be surprise that thing go awry.

It's already late, but not too late - Jokowi, it's time you take ACTION and make some lose face in public.

.
Now this is an unconfirmed rumor (which probably can never be proven), but it is rather persistent:

There has been a fund raising effort to get the money to subsidize the rally on 4 November. They raised approx. 100 billion rupiah. Besides the 'usual suspects' we discussed already there were even some contributing wealthy Chinese since they are not happy with how he is running things (i.e. not doing them any favors).

Ahok might face another lawsuit by people who feel insulted by his "they received 500K to demonstrate" remark. At least, they filed a complaint.

I read somewhere that now they are accusing Jokowi of blasphemy also. I don't think you can appease these idiots,

If Ahok comes out innocent...then what? Another bigger riot? looks like it's one of those 'guilty or else' kinda deal. Maybe Jokowi and/or TNI secretly wish that the rioters actually DO riot either on nov 25th or was it December 2nd...and use necessary force to take care of them?

.
That's a bit the point now. It won't be accepted by certain groups. (Damned if you do...)

The only thing they can hope for is a law suit that takes years or at least till far behind the elections so people 'forget'.

Yes, it will be interesting to see what happens on these two dates. It seems like a game of ping pong now (or perhaps bluff-poker is the better description):
"there will be a demo on 25th unless...."
"we will investigate if there is a crime committed"
"there definitely is a crime and he should be arrested, otherwise a demo"
"there is no need for a demo, the judicial path will be followed"
"there will not only be a demo but also a day of prayer on the Jakarta streets"

And in the mean time the enthousiastic army (besides police) support gets more and more press coverage.

They just published new results of surveys on 'electability':

According to the study center, Ahok went down from 57% to 26%.

Don't forget there is a difference between approval rating and electability. So it seems many more people will not vote for him in the DKI, even if they don't really changed their opinion on his policy.

It seems the government is quite concerned about a run on the banks Friday the 25th. Of course, called for by the hardliners. This too in all likelihood was planned out by political factors to hurt the central government.

http://jakartaglobe.id/business/no-valid-reasons-bank-run-top-finance-officials-say/

He was responding to widely circulating calls in social media for people to withdraw all their money from banks. Some of these calls reportedly came from the leaders of hardline Islamic organizations to force the authorities into taking tougher measures against Ahok over blasphemy allegations against him.

Wow. What a derpy way to protest. "Let's show them we mean business by tanking the economy!"
